CAPTAIN EFFING AMERICA.

The idea of Chris Evans* AND Joss Whedon** having a hand in Captain America makes me very very sad.

*YOU DON'T GET TO PLAY TWO SUPERHEROES IN THE SAME UNIVERSE. THAT'S JUST UNFAIR TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO BE A GODDAMN SUPERHERO.

**WHY WOULD YOU LET JOSS WHEDON DIRECT THE AVENGERS?

...the newest trailer is AWFULLY GODDAMN WHITE.

GTFO MY SCREEN.

disappointing.

so, I just bought The Mask of Zorro on dvd because I love Zorro, you guys, I love Zorro like you could not BELIEVE. If you're looking for What Formed Wee Me, you're looking at Supes and Wondy, Zorro, Robin Hood (the foxy version), Red Sonja, and The Empire Strikes Back.

Anyway. I'm super excited! Now I own it! Aaaand now I kind of want to go back and re-read the Isabel Allende novel.

ALSO ALSO ALSO YOU GUYS FOR VALENTINE'S DAY I GOT THE SUPERMAN LUNCHBOX WITH A CAPE. MY LUNCHBOX HAS A CAPE.

Prince of Persia = WHITE DUDE AS THE PRINCE OF PERSIA.

I HATE YOU, HOLLYWOOD. I HATE YOU SO MUCH.

sometimes, when I get really mad, all I want to do is write a story from Omid's point of view from the unaired Heroes pilot. But then I think that fandom would believe I was advocating terrorism and I don't. But sometimes I want to.

Watched the Watchmen. Enjoyed it WAY more than I thought I would, given how much I don't...uh, love the comic. I don't dislike the comic, but mostly the feeling I come away with after reading it is, "Wow, Alan Moore, you don't think your readership is that bright, do you?" and the movie made me go all :D :D :D :D at it.

The soundtrack was awesome, with the exception of the Leonard Cohen "Hallelujah," which I love but which was used to unfortunate comic effect.

The title sequence is getting kudos, and rightfully so, as it packs a ridiculous amount of information into a relatively short amount of time.

I liked it! I will probably talk more about it later, but right now I have to sleep, because I have to be at work soon. I leave you with this, though:

Jackie Earle Haley was amazing, but the trio of Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, and Carla Gugino was what sold me on the characters as people, largely because I found the whole loss of identity thing to be very compelling.

Good job, Zack Snyder. You're 2.5 for 3 with me.

watchmen

so I finally finished reading Watchmen. I will have more thoughts later, but:

...REALLY, ALAN MOORE? REALLY? DO YOU EVEN LIKE SUPERHEROES? WAIT, NO, NVM. I HAVE READ YOUR COMICS AND THE ANSWER TO THAT IS NO. ALSO, YOU WRITE TERRIBLE PORNFICTION. TERRIBLE PORNFICTION.

in other news, I like Dan and Laurie and Jon a lot and Rorschach a little. Also, Rorschach would have hit it with Dan in a hot second if he weren't crazy.

Anyway. I think the appeal of Alan Moore is largely lost on me as I generally come out of reading his stuff left with the urge to punch him repeatedly in the face. That said, Watchmen is a brilliant story filled with fucked up people who do fucked up things and are largely miserable and who suck. Zach Snyder, bring me the pretty, baby, and also explosions.

(but no, seriously, Nite Owl = love)

seen: the dark knight. it is as fabulous as everyone says. jim gordon ftw, for reals, you guys. he is my ethical doing-his-best cop boyfriend. for the entire first 3/4 of the movie, i thought the woman detective was renee montoya. it is not. (renee montoya = love)

seen: 300. lena headey is awesome. uh. otherwise it's eyecandy. really gorgeous eyecandy with so many issues i don't even know where to start. frank whores whores whores miller, i award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul. i blame zach snyder a lot less, because i think his deal is making really really faithful adaptations of things. at one point, i turned to the guy i was watching it with and went, "those two dudes are so boyfriends," and he said, "yeah, they really are."

(started) playing: warcraft iii: reign of chaos. it is blasphemous of me, but i like it the actual gameplay better than starcraft so far. possibly this is because i was shown how to use the arrow keys instead of the mouse to move around the map and it is therefore awesome. plus, i like the orcs a lot. A LOT. thrall is my orc warchief boyfriend.

(still) playing: starcraft. ahhhh, kerrigan. <333333333 we'll see how this goes now that I'm a little more comfortable with the interface.

next up on the blizzard lore catchup is diablo, d2, and d2: lord of destruction in prep for d3. this can wait, though, as we just announced the thing and there will probably be a very long wait between now and when it is released.

played: gh aero. highly amusing, especially during the run dmc set.

ate: coldstone. mmmmm ice cream.

flailed about: i get an aaaaaaamy. i get an aaaaaaamy. la la la la la la.

I was really looking forward to The Spirit because it has Gabriel Macht and Samuel L Jackson.

After watching the trailer, I'm not so much. God damn you to tell, Frank whores whores whores Miller. Not everything is Sin City. GTFO.

so, [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 and I were watching XF last night because we're trying to prepare for the new movie and we watched "Humbug" and then I watched "Dod Kalm," "Fearful Symmetry" and that one episode with the combination of Samantha, Luke from BtVS, and abortion doctors and the retrovirus that made your face turn green and melt off and the conclusions I have come to (or renewed, actually) are:

1) ZOMG SCULLY DO ME DO ME DO ME

2) Barring that, DO SKINNER (scully/skinner = cranky, competent, face punchy, mulder-mocking otp of my heart)

3) No, seriously, MORE SCULLY.

4) Darin Morgan = WIN (truthfully, I like all of the Morgan, Morgan and Wong eps.)

5) The list of episodes "necessary" to understand the new movie doesn't make any sense, unless the movie is about how a genetically engineered vampiric flukeman with cancer who can tell the future falls in love with scully. which, okay, IS NOT AS FAR FETCHED AS IT COULD BE. (eps are: pilot, "beyond the sea," "the host," "clyde bruckman's final repose," "memento mori," "post-modern prometheus," "bad blood," and "milagro." THERE'S ONLY ONE REAL MYTHARC EPISODE YAY YAY YAY.)

6) the XF: Fight the Future soundtrack remains AWESOME.

I ran out of things. um. anyway. XF: I Want to Believe at Comic Con group outing, y/y?
mimesere: (Default)
...how has it been 10 YEARS since X Files: Fight the Future came out?

(still an amazing soundtrack)

(EEEEE GILLIAN ANDERSON! EEEEEE XZIBIT! EEEEEEE MITCH PILEGGI!)

so, iron man was awesome. not my favorite comic book movie, but it's damn high up there.

And see, apparently I'm totally fine with enormous assholes as long as they save the world.

rdj was fantastically charming.

...that movie would have been infinitely better without spoiler )

I liked it, overall. Michelle Yeoh, Chris Evans, and Rose Byrne were smokin' hot; the science wasn't the best, but whatever, this is by the same guys who decided you could infect monkeys with rage and have it be transmitted to humans and it resulted in a lot of really gorgeous shots; people were generally very practical and the mistakes that were made weren't out of the realm of the possible.

But mostly, people were hot *and* pragmatic *and* saved the world *and* were all of them batshit insane and ruthless.

and man, how much do I LOVE the Baz Luhrmann Romeo + Juliet?

Anyway. There should be more Mercutio fic is what I'm sayin'. And that if my computer weren't eating itself, I would try to finish the vid. And also replace Tybalt's speech with bits from the Queen Mab speech.

p.s. if someone wanted to get on bandom in verona beach? I would not say no. tell me that frank doesn't fit there perfectly. tell me that. go on, try. I will call you a liar to your face.

p.p.s. harry lennix's aaron the moor and harold perrineau's mercutio are two of my favorite shakespearean characters on the screen. the third is jack davenport's prince malcolm.

p.p.p.s. elliot goldenthal's score for julie taymor's titus is utterly brilliant.
mimesere: (Default)
was *fucking brilliant*.

omg! is that PAUL MCGANN ON MY TV?

PAUL MCGANN I LOVE YOU!

Dude, I *totally* don't remember any of this from Queen of the Damned. And *god*, I'd forgotten how amazingly gay this movie is. Stuart Townsend! Oh, not!Aragorn, how I adore your trashy, trashy self.

Claudia Black is in this movie! and apparently Paul McGann! And some REALLY TERRIBLE ACTING! And the ugliest Marius ever. Good lord.
mimesere: (Default)
I really, really love Dodgeball a lot. I love it like I love Galaxy Quest and Mystery Men and Josie and the Pussycats. I love it like I love Mammoth. Justin Bateman is *hilarious* as Pepper, Vince Vaughn is weirdly charming, and the guest stars are made of win.

I just...it is one of those movies that never ever fails to make me giggle.

Also, in case you were wondering? This is my most favoritest icon in the whole wide world. No, seriously. I have others that I use more? But this is far and away my favorite. Because it's DuJour! DuJour means friendship!

Anyway. Yes.
mimesere: (Default)
...oh, *man*. Christopher Reeve.

*sniffle*
mimesere: (Default)
oh, *that's* where I knew Vansen from!

And man, between Legally Blonde and the Final Destination duo on sci fi, it is totally an Ali Larterrific day. Also Heroes is on. Woo!

ETA: I have to say, Kristen Cloke's death scene in Final Destination is like, my all time favorite death scene from a movie. It even beats Alan Rickman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Paul Reubens' death scene in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
mimesere: (Default)
Wow, this is both incredibly beautiful and pretty fucked up.

Way to be awesome, guys!
mimesere: (Default)
Dude, it is *amazing* how hearing the music from LotR takes me right back into watching it.

ETA: I forget how much I love the trilogy sometimes. FotR for Boromir, poor fucked up beyond imagining Boromir who loves his land and loves his people and loves his pride and who has a problem seeing beyond the borders of Gondor; TTT for the Rohirrim and my Kingly Boyfriend, glorious and melancholy and ass-kicking and dying; RotK for Pippin and Eowyn and the battle at Pelennor Fields, death and glory and the determination to fight and hope and overwhelming odds.

Yeah, this stuff is my crack.

ETA2: BOROMIR! *sniffle*

ETA3: FORTH EORLINGAS!

ETA4: The lighting of the signal beacons still gives me chills.
