This is the first you-fic I've read, and I must say, *wow.* One of the things I most like about both of the PotC movies is the fact that all of the characters are so very unfinished, so right in the middle of dealing with their issues and discovering that they even HAVE issues. (This is the only thing that keeps me from hating Elizabeth--I have every hope she'll turn into a black-hearted marooner one day and then all can be forgiven.) I love the way you've taken that aspect of each character and built it up a little more, expanded it a little. It's amazing to watch the sketches Ted&Terry give us gain flesh in the hands of talented and skilled fanfiction writers.

The other thing I most like about the movies, most particularly the first one, is that they are a Rollicking Good Time that doesn't know the consequences of adventure or the more brutal realities of living in an age and country like Hispania. It took me two readings of the scene before I realized the ceremony being performed on the deck was a funerary one. One of the hardships many of us don't have to face in a modern Western life is that of life growing up well before you do, that is, of having to suffer a lifetime of consequences for decisions made as half-adult, half-child. We don't know what regret means, in some ways. That being the case, your Norrington is not only the most mature of the group, but the most perspicacious. It's no wonder he's such a hard man.

I enjoyed the hell out of this--fan fiction isn't usually something you get to chew on for a while. Thanks for writing.
