This is also totally true of that one movie with Kathy Ireland and Scott Bakula, both Major League movies, and really, any movie that involves a cast of misfits playing sports and discovering that they are truly awesome and the equal of professional players if they just want it enough.

Yeah, the earnest sports movie is a favorite genre of mine which is why I'll watch all the Rocky movies (except for the one with Mr. T) over and over again; especially the one with Dolph Lundgren in it because, hey, Dolph!
On my list I'd include: The Longest Yard (the original, dammit), The Sandlot, and The Bad News Bears (again, the original), Bud Greenspan's Olympic films - not exactly underdoggish but they have their moments, Hoosiers.
I love The Replacements if only for the jailhouse dance scene.
