Padme just makes me want to cry. I don't understand how you go from badass queen president general freedom fighter chick to "Hold me, Ani, like you did when we were on Naboo."
I have chosen to believe that Leia gets her moxie from Jimmy Smits as it clearly does not come from anyone she shares DNA with.
Padme makes me want to kick things. (And, if I get my choice of person, also people. Oooo, I'd buy steel-toed boots for that kicking experience.)
Before rage overtook us and we had to stop thinking about it, BB and I hacked out part of a Padme and Leia story, comparing and contrasting their (possible, because it's not like we have much backstory for them that I know) life experiences.
Like, for example, Padme at age five: cossetted, coddled, spending all her time playing in the garden with her many nurses. Leia at age five: eavesdropping on her stepfather as he helped build the rebellion while he tried to keep her protected and insulated and all that stuff.
The point there is that Leia grew up knowing her safety was an illusion and that she could easily lose things she couldn't stand to lose. Padme - well, the only explanation I've managed to come up with for Padme's behavior at the end was that she thought she was living in a fairy tale, and that she was the heroine, and so love would win out and save the day and blah blah blah. She did the action sequence, she lived through the second reel, and now is the time when the lovers kiss and the screen fades to black, right? Except, wrong - Padme, you're living in a tragedy and it isn't your tragedy. Time for you to die.

I don't know. I just don't. Padme is inexplicable and frustrating to me. And now we're right back to kicking things.
