Gunn found him in one of the rooms, sitting on the bed with his hands clasped tightly between his knees.

Wesley spoke softly, not bothering to look up. "Have you ever woken up in the morning and realized that life has passed you by?"

"I dunno," said Gunn. He shrugged. "No."

"I have. I don't especially recommend the experience."

"Wes--"

Wesley glanced at him. "How is Fred?"

"She's good, man. And if you actually say you care, I will call you a liar to your face."

Wesley nodded. "I'm leaving in the morning."

"You're--"

"Leaving. You are a bright man, Gunn. And it's not a *difficult* word." He smiled and, for what was maybe the first time since they'd met, Gunn wanted to hit him.

"So you're running away."

"Making a strategic retreat."

"Running away like a rank-ass--"

"Gunn--"

"--fucking *coward*--"

"Charles," said Wesley quietly.

Gunn looked away.

ow! but also right on. Wesley needs to get out of that place. It's killing him.

*mwah* Yes. Wesley needs something new in his life. Something to give it meaning and that doesn't lead to grevious bodily injury.

Sometimes he gets Gunn. One time, the most important time, he doesn't and Gunn doesn't know it. Poor babies. Suffer! Suffer!

I...need sleep.

**sigh** Yeah, it's pretty much like that. I'm having a hard time remembering when they actually did justice to his character on that show. I think it's high time for "Wesley, Rogue-Demon-Hunter" the spinoff.

The Naked Wesley show. Watch Wesley fight demons- in the nude!

Mmmm, I could get behind that.

The first season would be all setting up, with lots of MOTWs and the occasional ratings stunt and hot women running around beating the crap out of him. Season 2 would bring him security, and then rip it away. And season 3 would be gimmicky and become soap opera like.

This seems to be the Jossian (and now the Greenwaltian) paradigm.

So, next season, we can look forward to an all new set, the addition of a new character or two, the loss of a beloved character for stupid romance related reasons, and a villain that *seems* promising but fizzles out in the end.

Oh, and maybe one or two really weird, nifty cool eps.

But then, it'd have Wesley in most of the shots, and really, that's never a *bad* thing.

Ouch. And yes. And more please. Please? I could beg.

This is part of the Story That Ate My Life, so. Never fear. There's more. And all of it involving some kind of hurt. Except when it's soppy.
