upon watching PotC for the ninety millionth time

I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

My goodness, Norrington is hot like a hot, hot thing in the prologue.  Just.  Dude.  Dude!

Awwww.  Will!  Big dork boy.  See?  I am fond of him.  It's just, you know, the choice of him MAKES NO DAMN SENSE.

And the corset joke still makes no sense to me.  At all.

Folded steel! Folded steel my *ass*, Will. though it is a lovely smallsword.

...er, and I just got caught up plotting out VB!sparrington.  so.  this will just have to wait.

ETA: OMG! Norrington's ankles!

ETA2: OMG! the scene in the fort! Could Norrington *be* hotter? I don't think he could. He's all...grabby and forceful! And delivers the bitchslap that, honestly, Will deserves. Yes, honey, THEY KNOW the pirates have taken Elizabeth. I mean, her *dad* is standing right there. But dude! HOtness of Norrington!

And you know what, I kind of do want to know where the Jack/Will people are getting their subtext from. 'cause, dude, Will is all, "I want to kill pirates!" and Jack is all, "You look like your daddy!" and, you know. the sparrington people have to justify it all the time! It makes me go grr!

ETA3: His eyes are so green! Seriously, dude. just. Norrington is *seething* when Jack takes the Interceptor. Mmmmm. He's gonna *blow up his own ship* to keep her from being used for crime! *heart heart heart* "So it would seem." *heart heart heart*

ETA4: Okay, I give Will props for being all, "He roped a couple of sea turtles." like he can't even believe Gibbs is trying to pass that one off.

ETA5: Okay, I also give Orli props for doing face acting. But then he was all back to bombast.

ETA6: Dude. That's a wool coat over a vest over a shirt. In the Caribbean. And three feet of cloth around his neck! how does the man not keel over from heat exhaustion?

ETA7: I truly don't think I could love Norrington *more*. *hearts* "Oh, I think we can give him one day's head start." and he's all classy and gracious! "This is a beautiful sword. I expect the man who made it will show the same care and devotion in every aspect of his life." Which, you know, a) shows that he's perfectly well aware of *who* made his sword, b) and how awesome a philosophy is that? Seriously. If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing *well*. And with one's full care and devotion.

Know what you're good at? Rekindling my Norri-lust. Not that it ever dies, mind, but you always manage to fan it higher with just a few squeesome words. I thank you. ;-)

*g* The funny thing? I sometimes forget how hot he is. And then I look at a picture or, you know, watch the movie, and am struck dumb by the hotness. like, you should have heard me on his *first line* which is not a sexy line in the slightest, and yet I went, "Wahey!"

So, you know. yay! Yay for the Norrington lust!

I love you like a big loveable thing. :)

*giggle* coolness.

Also, I heart that icon. It makes me beam and giggle like a little kid.

OMG, I'm falling over just from the waves of Norrington love emanating off the screen.

*wibbles, squeals, writhes*

*glares at manuscript* - Be fucking finished being edited so I can write Sparrington already!!

Your ETA3 point went straight through me like an epiphany. Just the emphasis of that blowing-up-the-ship point. oh

And I think what you meant to say in that last line is that if a person is worth doing, they're worth doing well. ;-)

(OMG, I need to see that movie again. And again, and again, and again...)

[identity profile] mimesere.livejournal.com 2004-05-02 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
I love him *so much*. I can't help it! When he is on the screen, everyone else (except Jack) might as well not be, because I'm like, "norrington! ooooh!" and I get kinda giddy.

Yes! You must write sparrington! I cheer you on!

*g* The ETA3 point is something that just gets me every single time. That whole *scene* where he's pissed off and seething and yet *still acknowledges that he was wrong*. And then what is one of his sexier lines in, "We don't need to catch them; just get them in range of the long nines." I go swoon! and meep! and make strange little sounds, because man, he's got his convictions and he's bad ass about them. What's not to love?

And I think what you meant to say in that last line is that if a person is worth doing, they're worth doing well. ;-)

Heee. That too. But oh, just *imagine* say, a sword fight between Jack and Norrington. Which is not *quite* sex, though it is close. They'd put their all into it. Like um, like that scene in Rob Roy between Rob and Archie when it's just clash clash clash break pace size up clash clash clash. And they'd both fight dirty, 'cause Jack would be all, "Pirate," and Norrington would be all, "I know," and um, you know. I like swordfights. I do. 'cause it's just one step away from outright porn.

I just re-watched the movie yesterday and had a blast AGAIN - this movie just kicks ass. :) And I adore Norrington and Jack, especially the scene where Elizabeth is putting Jack's hat and belt on, while Jack stares over his shoulder at Norrington just daring him to come take him. Oooh, the hotness! ;)

I sort of "get" why people like Jack/Will. When I saw the movie the first time it seemed the more obvious pairing just because Will and Jack are the "heroes" and have more screen time than Norrington. And for people who like the mentor/student relationship, I still see how it would be the hot pairing. I don't particularly, and Will's love for Elizabeth is too strong for me to get around also. Plus, I adore Jack Davenport and the fact that Norrington is a Man to Will's Boy...

Really, the thing that struck me most yesterday, though, is that Jack is one of those charming people who really can't quite get anything to do what he planned, yet it all works out because he just rolls with it all. While Norrington forces things to work by allowing nothing to go unplanned.

I think yesterday was just the day to rewatch that movie, 'cause I know a few people who did.

especially the scene where Elizabeth is putting Jack's hat and belt on, while Jack stares over his shoulder at Norrington just daring him to come take him. Oooh, the hotness! ;)

I was on AIM while I was watching that and trying to plot out something neat for the Verona Beach AU, and I got *so distracted* during the hotness of the dock scene that I stopped typing in the middle of a sentence and just started going, "OMG, they are so hot!"

I mean, I get, in a meta sense, why Jack/Will is (still) the dominant PotC pairing because I know how most fans think and where a lot of the kinks lie. But I watch the movie itself and just go, "But...look! Jack *doesn't care* about Will. They're not engaging on a level past 'I can use you to achieve my goals.'" And then I look around at like, how many times people have said, "Norrington's a villain!" or "Jack/Norrington makes no sense!" and no one does that for Jack/Will. And I kind of wonder why, because it feels like no one's...challenged the Jack/Will people to articulate the whys of their pairing the way people have challenged the Jack/Norrington folks. And, you know. Fair shakes, man. Jack/Will as a pairing is probably not ever going to do anything for me, but I'd like to know *why* it works. I want someone to be able to point me toward a specific scene or image in the film itself and go, "There, that's why." And they just never do.

This is what taking lit classes does to me. I get all, "Prove it! Support your thesis!" and it all just goes downhill from there.

Really, the thing that struck me most yesterday, though, is that Jack is one of those charming people who really can't quite get anything to do what he planned, yet it all works out because he just rolls with it all. While Norrington forces things to work by allowing nothing to go unplanned.

Yes!

er. I thought I had something deep and insightful to say about this, but I don't. I just have, "Yes!" 'cause it's so true.

I realized something last night when I was pondering the pr0n-y good thoughts Sheila and Juniper were tossing out about the dock scene:

Jack has no idea who Elizabeth is or what her relationship to Norrington is at that point in the movie. There is simply no way for him *to* know. Sure, he can easily surmise her relationship to the other Important Man in the Big Wig 'cause Elizabeth calls the governor "father." As far as Jack knows at that moment? Elizabeth is just *any* female citizen of the town whose honor Norrington would be bound to defend if he came across a pirate leaning over her in her underwear.

So, when Jack eyef*cks Norrington over Eliazabeth's shoulder? It really is *all about* Jack and Norrington. It's got nothing to do with Elizabeth-as-Norrington's-girl-and-Jack-needling-him-on-that-point because at that point in the movie? Jack doesn't know she's Norrington's girl. He's all about needling Norrington there solely to needle Norrington.

I mean, just ... that scene just got, like, a billion times more slashy.

[identity profile] fanaddict.livejournal.com 2004-05-03 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh - very good (and hot) thought! Mmmmmm...

Did Norrington call her Elizabeth? It's possible Jack figured they had some less than casual relationship if he heard Norrington use her first name. Still, that whole scene was definitely all about Jack and Norrington eying each other. And Jack's whole "this will be the day that you almost caught..." was totally directed at Norrington and Norrington alone, and was a total challenge. One which Norrington tossed back when he caught Jack.

[identity profile] mimesere.livejournal.com 2004-05-04 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Smap, dude. You're totally right.

That scene just got a *hell* of a lot slashier. Keeeeen. *makes note to uh, note this in part 2b*

[identity profile] latxcvi.livejournal.com 2004-05-02 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I ♥ this post and you, 'cause yeah. Everything you said! Times, like, 50. Also, just your ETA2? I like Will quite a bit, but every. Single. Time. I watch that scene I just think, "Dude. DUDE. You've been *unconsious* for god knows how many hours and you actually think you're the only person hip to what's happened to Elizabeth? Frankly, Dorkmeister, you're about three-to-five hours *behind* everyone on this. Also? Elizabeth's *father* is in the room, so really, no, I don't think you're the person there *most* concerned for her safety."

But then, you know, Norrington bitchslaps him with roughly the same points and I stop going "Will, take your head out of your ass. Please.

Also, I would just like to point out that Will's Plan? Not that different from Norrington's Plan in any significant way. *Both* of them think enough ahead to be all, "Pirates took her, it's going to take a ship to get her back." The *only* reason Will's Plan works more effectively is because of an intervening factor that has nothing to do with Will being more *clever or smart* than Norrington and everything to do with who his father is. 'Cause that's the only reason Jack decides to help him. If he'd been Will *Murdoch* or whatever, he wouldn't have made it out of Port Royal with Jack and the Interceptor in tow.

And, and, and, sure, Elizabeth is clever enough to go "whee, smoke signal," but someone still had to be competent enough to *be in the right place at the right time to see it*. And that competent someone was, you know, the Commodore.

So. Um. Yeah. Thwarted at all turns by chance *my ass*.

"Oh, I think we can give him one day's head start." and he's all classy and gracious!

And this is one of the many reasons I ♥ him so very much.

You speak true, G! 100% true!

I may watch it again today just to...er. Pay attention during those scenes when Norrington is not on the screen. *sigh* One day I will have an attention span again, I swear.

[identity profile] broken--wingz.livejournal.com 2004-05-02 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
he really is the sexiest man that never lived.

[identity profile] mimesere.livejournal.com 2004-05-02 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not wrong :)

[identity profile] kattahj.livejournal.com 2004-05-03 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
And you know what, I kind of do want to know where the Jack/Will people are getting their subtext from. 'cause, dude, Will is all, "I want to kill pirates!" and Jack is all, "You look like your daddy!"

It seems to me both those things could be read as very slashy. Especially the latter. I mean, Will looks like a guy Jack calls "a good man" despite the fact that he participated in the mutiny? Could do some great things with that.

Of course, *I* couldn't, because I think Orlando is about as interesting as cold toast, but still, I don't think the slashiness is nonexistant.

Then again, the slashiness between Jack Sparrow and anything even remotely animate isn't nonexistant.

[identity profile] mimesere.livejournal.com 2004-05-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My main objection to both of those things being used as subtexty is that the "I want to kill pirates!" thing is used *against* Norrington/Jack subtext and so in that circumstance, I think the bias should be applied equally and it just never is.

And the looking like his daddy thing would just creep me out, man.

And I don't think that the slashiness is nonexistent, but I want someone to go to the effort of explaining it and backing it up with canon rather than just having Jack/Will be the de facto pairing of the fandom. It frustrates me on levels that er, make me have to pull back and politely ignore people until I stop feeling like I need to spork them in the eye.

Hi! I'm pointless random person. Huzzah! :)

RE: ETA7 - when he says "Oh, I htink we can give him one day's head start" watch the eyebrows. OMG! He makes pervy suggestive eyebrows!!

And with the eyebrow thing [no, no eyebrow fetish! :P I just think that they can be very indicative of more than just what is being said in some cases - either that or I'm just really good at wishful thinking ;)] Jack, on the Dauntless, when he does his "last real pirate threat in the Caribbean speech" - eyebrows all the way.

Um. Yes. *runs away*

[identity profile] mimesere.livejournal.com 2004-05-05 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Huzzah!

Hee! I know! The eyebrows are what makes that line less about Woeful Woobie Norrington and more about Snarky Bitch Norrington and I *love it*

The *body language* between them is fantastic. *hearts it a lot*

[identity profile] futureperfect.livejournal.com 2004-05-07 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Snarky Bitch Norrington is the greatest. He has so many smirky snarky moments in the whole movie it's just so great! More power to Norrington! *cheers*

Oh. My. God. When I first started to pick up on the Sparrington vibe I rewatched the movie and almost *died*! I couldn't believe I didn't manage to see it before then!!
