groove is in the heart

you know who I hate more than anyone else in Romeo and Juliet?

I fucking hate Friar Laurence, the shady, shady dickweed. I hate him more than I hate the emo manpainy asshattery that is Romeo. Even the outrageously awesome scenery chewing that is Pete Postelthwaite's Laurence cannot make up for the fact that he's a hubristic ass who should be beaten to death with his own crapulence.

Oh, so much yes.

I hate him so much! So much! Because he's...argh. Just *useless* and incompetent and full of dumb!

*snugs*
I do love his tattoos, unfortunately.

Oh, the tattoos are awesome as is Pete himself, but *lord* the character is a dickweed.

When I was doing R&J in college, our Friar Laurence confessed at the first read-through that he *hated* his character and that every time he thought about how if Friar Laurence had managed *one* sensible moment in the whole play, the whole thing would have come out better, he felt like beating his head against the table. Which caused all of us (including the director) to take up, "Let the head beating begin!" as our rallying cry for the rest of the production.

Or, to put it another way, word.

*snerk* It's so true, though! If he had exhibited any sense whatsoever, everything would have worked out fine. Like, get the kids married and then be all, "Yo, Prince, I have gotten them married! Instant end to the fighting, woo woo!" But then it would be a comedy.

So freaking true. If it weren't for Mercutio I don't know if I could stomach the whole rest of the play.

I lose interest in the play right after Tybalt's death since that's the fallout from Mercutio's. But yeah, I just...don't even know what to do with that play.

My english teacher did a hilarious impression of DiCaprio as Romeo last year, and now I can't see that version of the play without laughing hysterically.

I agree. R & J don't die because they love each other, they die because Laurence is an idiot.

Children - Faking Your Own Death is NEVER a legitimante way out of your troubles.

It's just...SUCH A BAD PLAN, OMG.

The whole thing = bad plan! It's all incompetence and stupidity and it makes me kind of nuts.
