I know! I mean Australia just doesn't have the same kind of relationship with African-descended people that the US does, but you'd think we'd develop some kind of clue at some point.
(Sorry, random Australian reading friends page). Australia as a nation kind of sucks when it comes to the racism debate. And the times I have wanted to strangle one of my coworkers since Harry Connick Jr made the very correct comments he did is both irritating and telling. If one more person at work start saying how it was just a joke I'm going to throw sharp objects at them.
On Hey Hey It's Wednesday, a group of doctors dressed up in blackface and did an act as the Jackson 5; Harry Connick Jr found it appalling and said so right then and there; and now apparently many people in Australia don't know why he would have been outraged by it.
