I'm sure everyone and their mom has seen these two posts, but just in case, I'm going to put them up too.
annavtree's intro to hip hop - It's a good introduction to both the commercial and political sides of the genre, lots of different artists and styles, and some background info on the people involved and their relationships with one another.
heresluck's intro to political hip hop - Some independent artists and a lot of interesting choices in terms of the artists involved.
