Due to a lot of very good luck, I get to buy a new toy! and I have settled on the ipad*. So, NATURALLY, this means that I get to go through the bluray collection and try to find the ones that have digital copies that I can download and then pop on that bad boy. So far:

STAR TREK! YAY! SHERLOCK HOLMES! YAY! UP! YAY! etc etc etc.

But no love from Iron Man. That was also one in which we were saddened by the lack of commentary. :(

I also managed to duplicate about 80% of my comfort books in some kind of digital format**. Plus I tore through Project Gutenberg to find books like the Oz series which I've wanted forever and the Austen novels and some other stuff.

I'm very excited. The boything got a new computer (for SC2 and D3 when they come out) and I get my shiny. Now I just need to find some way to skin the thing to look like a PADD and I'll be all set. Though failing that, I may just stencil DON'T PANIC on the cover and be done with it.

*I know all the arguments as to why I shouldn't get one, but when it comes right down to it, I don't mind the closed Apple ecosystem, I don't mind not being able to tinker with parts, and I do want to support a company that I think is one of the best there is at coming up with form factors that are elegant, simple to use, polished, and which don't break on me constantly. And I know that I should wait for gen2, but gen1 does what I currently would like for the form factor to do and fills a niche that I have been wanting to fill since the Kindle and Sony Reader were launched but which do more than unitask.

**I'm all for paying for things to support their producers. However, I draw the line at having to pay for an extra copy of something I have already paid for. Also, if I can't find something to buy it, OH WELL.

I would take this to work every day with pride.

Reading! I've been doing a fair amount of this, also playing Starcraft.

Have Read:
Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Allison Goodman- I loved the storytelling and then went *facepalm* at the hamhandedness of the metaphors. But you know, it has a duel weapon wielding ass kicking girl, some dragons, some kind of suspicious but well-meaning Set In Pseudo China, and a LOT of gender. Female lead, a main trans character, some interesting hints at complex sexualities. Interesting treatment of differently abled people. It's also, plot-wise, VERY predictable. Like, predictable to the point where knowing the premise pretty much let you know what was going to happen through to the end of the book.

Some ARC I got of an Ilona Andrews book - meh. I got bored 3 pages in. I didn't like her other series, but this one was free and I was like, "Well, maybe I just didn't like her other characters..." and no, it just turns out I think her books are boring.

Fire by Kristin Cashore - I really liked it! [livejournal.com profile] fox1013, I am totally good to talk about it now!

Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey. YAY.

Am Reading:
The Faded Sun Trilogy - CJ Cherryh. As near as I could tell, it was about space ninjas, and also I really liked 40000 in Gehenna.

One More Bite - Jennifer Rardin. Vampire assassins for the CIA! It is still amusing!

Rosemary and Rue by an author whose name escapes me but it is an ARC and it is in my room far far away.

Quiver - Kevin Smith. Because Arrow Family is the second DCU family of my heart. Also, because it is the Speedys Kick Ass Show.

Upcoming Reading:
Banewreaker duology by Jacqueline Carey. I really liked this set the first time I read it and want to know if it holds up to rereading for me.

Nightworld, vol. 3 - LJ Smith. I got it for free at Comic Con!

Books of Magic - Neil Gaiman. Because I just realized I had it.

Romance novels by Nalini Singh (yay!), Julia Quinn (semi yay! So far, I have not liked anything quite as much as her Bridgerton books), Stephanie Laurens (IDEK. Let's just leave it there), Mary Balogh (I like to read hers when I want to cry!), and Loretta Chase.

eta: I still think my Roy mix was one of the best fanmixes I've ever made. (if I still had webspace, I'd reupload the music. Oh well)

PSTUMP = AWESOME!

How do I know this? 10 reasons why Pstump is still the bandom dork of my heart.

In no particular order!

-Because he sings Britney's "Womanizer" with Ellen Degeneres in a bathroom while Pete dances like an epic nerd in the background. And then when Pete is delivering lines worse than Britney ever did, you can see Pstump trying not to laugh. (also, Ellen D, HOW SO AMAZING?)

-Because he thinks the Roots are the best live band out there. Pstump +?uestlove 4evah!!!!!eleven!!

-Because he says things like, "I wish more artists were less afraid of funk." and "Even I'm getting sick of how much I talk about Kanye in interviews." Pstump + Kanye 4evah!!!!eleven!! (are we seeing a trend?)

-This is for [livejournal.com profile] cidercupcakes mostly, and [livejournal.com profile] sexonastick:
I'm hearing a lot of flack going the way of Jennifer Hudson, Faith Hill, and now Bruce Springsteen's legendary band for not performing live but miming their performances to pre-recorded music. And while I myself have made it a point never to lip-synch for any reason I have to say that, like the Christian Bale/Director of Photography debacle, uneducated people should mind their own business. Why is this trivia? Cause I'm gonna get vaguely technical: [snip really hot technical discussion of sound in a stadium] Springsteen is a legend and deserves a little respect. I know the internet was only invented so you can talk about how much you hate things in a disconnected attempt at scene points, but lighten up.

Which is to say, Pstump, how so awesome? Pstump + Springsteen and the E-street Band 4evah!!!!eleven!!

-Pstump and Travie and Cee-lo and Butch Walker did a song together. I KNOW, YOU GUYS, IT'S LIKE THEY WANTED ME TO BE HAPPY.

-He says stuff like this: "I've never assumed anybody reads this site, but whomever happen upon it, have a great day and do something good and selfless as soon as you're able to." Yeah, 'cause THAT's not exactly what I find ridiculously charming and attractive.

-I still think it's AMAZING that Patrick and Gerard apparently spent the Summer of Like playing warhammer. WARHAMMER, YOU GUYS. WARHAMMER. I can't decide if I want it to be classic or 40K because I can't decide which is EPICALLY NERDIER.

-Travis/Pstump 4evah!!!!eleven!!: “He’ll be like, ‘Travis, hit this note!’ and I’ll be like, ‘Just tune that shit!’ and he’ll say, ‘Just fuckin’ be a man and hit that shit!’ I got four feet on the dude, and he’s putting me in check.”

-Pstump and Butch Walker fanboy all over each other in a mutual interview. Link at icecreamhdaches

-...he's Patrick Randomly Changed His Middle Name WTF Stump. How could I not think he's the bee's knees? Also, LOVE LOCKDOWN, YOU GUYS. HOW SO AMAZING?

Via Pete and Travis: 1985 from Marvel Comics looks pretty cool.. I may have to check it out.

eta: if anyone wants to hook a girl up with the lullaby, i would be forever grateful.

so, I have spent a large part of the last week reading regency romances and now I REALLY REALLY REALLY want someone to write a bandom take on it. Not genderswap, though one day, remind me to dig out my FOB genderswap regency shenanigans, and not like, Madame Victoria's House of Discreet Gentlemen, but like. Just. Some kind of bizarre, nothing-at-all-to-do-with-any-kind-of-reality pete/patrick gay regency romance.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW, YOU GUYS.

Pete would have the worst reputation and everyone would be scandalized when he shows up places and Patrick would, uh, be a debutante? Or something. And he doesn't *really* care about making his debut, because he'd rather be writing music, but he wants to be married and have kids, so he's totally resigned to a season. And Pete would decide, HEY NOW, and start pursuing Patrick and maybe they waltz and Pete says inappropriate things and uh. Then there are censorious whispers! And such.

man, just the thought of it is making me ridiculously happy.

I want one of those stupid metal studded belts.

I DON'T WEAR BELTS.

AND MAYBE I WANT A BAG WITH SKULLS ON IT, OKAY, DON'T JUDGE ME, I THINK THERE ARE SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES IN FALL OUT BOY'S MUSIC.

(joe to patrick, in tones of great uh, scandalization: "OH MY GOD, you slept with Mr. Moviephone!' someone really needs to get on a josie and the pussycats/bandom crossover. Decaydance is totally their new label.)

I am going to the gym, where I shall listen to Ziggy Stardust and...sweat. and be active. *makes face* and then hopefully hot topic will be closed and I will not buy a bag with skulls on it.

I...rock?

I just bought guitar hero I and II*. um. and played the drum part for rock band at best buy.

and then I eyed an electric drum set speculatively.

*facepalm*

*throws horns*

also, I bought Resident Evil: Extinction. Because you know what's hot? Milla Jovavich, Ali Larter, and Oded Fehr killin' zombies in post apocalyptic las vegas. It's like a checklist of stuff that I love. Post apocalypse! girls kicking ass! people of color! zombies! west coast (shut up, las vegas is practically a suburb of LA anyway) goodness! Apparently Alice, Claire, and Carlos are kinda threesome-y. HI, HOW IS THAT NOT AWESOME?

I still need an appropriately generic rocking out icon. But here, have some Polly Jean.

*whatever, I'm REINVESTING IN THE COMPANY FOR WHICH I WORK.
