Velvet Goldmine...is one of those movies I love really passionately because of how ridiculously over the top it is. I own the illustrated screenplay and the soundtrack and way back when, we put together this two disc soundtrack set of...stuff. Songs from the movie, songs from the era, stuff like that. And I can't even say that I'm a huge fan of that era/style of music, but there's something about the story that Todd Haynes was telling and something about the way he told it and the way he pulled things together that's this really interesting story about fame and relationships and music and the business of music and promotion that all just really really worked for me. Plus there's glitter.
And OH COBRA STARSHIP. They are totally my second favorite after FOB, because they share that sort of...they share this mindset where they're like, okay, where did the fun music go? And they are shamelessly pop and shamelessly...shameless and utterly ridiculous and they're having fun and I love them all so much, I can't even say.
