if it weren't, i'd be tempted to talk about Glee and how fandom is doing it wrong; being tired of listening to non-Americans hold forth on America; tokenism vs NOTHING AT ALL and which is more harmful; and a rant about civil behavior and how people are giant assholes who deserve a punch in the neck.

Instead, I shall say that cornbread is quite nice and Gail Carriger's Soulless is effervescent and delightful.

Also, in the realm of geeky things:
1) Planning a wedding to coincide with comic con: nerdy or NERDIEST?
2) when I next buy a house (a bigger one, where I do not plan to move ever), furniture from this site will be in it: http://www.geekchichq.com/
Because there's nothing more awesome than a dining room table that converts to ULTIMATE RPG GAMING TABLE. I would get it now, but it wouldn't fit in my dining room.

I'm just getting increasingly mad at people who are all, "blah blah Glee criticism for tokenism and stereotypes" when they are also, "YAY SUPERNATURAL WITH SCADS OF DEAD WOMEN AND MINORITIES!" And saying that they are quitting Glee (or Heroes S1 or whatever) because of tokenism and stereotypes when SPN's poor treatment of women and minorities gets a pass because it hits your kinks.

Like, I'm sorry that a show that HAS women AND PoC AND openly queer character(s) AND a dude in a wheelchair isn't LIBERAL enough for people. And maybe my standards are just low that I'm grateful that Kurt gets to have a non-traumatic coming out story and that Mercedes gets to want a relationship just like everyone else and think she deserves solos (and gets them!) and that Artie is the most socially ept of the non-cheerleaders and that Quinn gets to be more than a farce of a stereotypical cheerleader and that Will is a assface who I think we're SUPPOSED to think is a assface. ugh. Sorry, it irks me a lot that people criticize it for not being...something that doesn't exist.

Like, it's not perfect, and it can be highly problematic, but it's not MORE problematic than other shows that people are watching, so I fail to understand how it is OMG WORSE than anything else.

Dude, I totally hear you. I mean, I'm not gonna lie, I didn't enjoy how the adult women were portrayed. (I also think part of that was that they were trying to go for a cartoony Ugly Betty-type feel, but it was just sort of missing a soul for me. But at the same time, it's only the pilot.) But I also don't feel like it's, I don't know, MORE MISOGYNIST THAN DAVE SIM'S INNER FANTASY LIFE or something like that.

And I definitely hear your frustration re: Sorry, it irks me a lot that people criticize it for not being...something that doesn't exist.

I felt the exact same thing when everyone was leaping off the Heroes boat. I was like, "Okay, it looks like they're subverting the What These People Need Is A Honky thing with Kensei, but we're all gonna watch Supernatural now? Oh. Okay." But now I'm watching and loving SPN, so now maybe I'm part of the problem. Idk.

Like, on the one hand, I like that fandom is going, "MAKE IT BETTER. MORE PROGRESSIVE. DO IT." But at the same time, I, too, get suspicious sometimes about how it's like, "Hey, show that's actually trying: I'm pissed you're not trying harder. Now back to the show that doesn't give a shit."

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that Glee fandom is SRS BSNS, but I can see how that would be frustrating.

It's not so much Glee fandom, though there are moments of /o\ with them, so much as it is people that are criticizing Glee for being all token-y and stereotypical and misogynist and racist when they are still watching, say, Supernatural.

Like, if you're going to start tarring shows with that brush, all the shows should be getting it and someone's kink button show shouldn't get a pass just because it hits someone's kinks. And it's just frustrating to keep reading criticism like that.

and I would totes go for costumes, except I bought my wedding dress already and it makes me go :D :D :D. The Boy, however, wants a cape and a top hat and a cane. And our wedding favors are going to be RPG dice. um. and possibly we're going to have Rock Band at the wedding in addition to dancing. IDEK.

And yeah, I know what you mean. I don't really get how my friends can tolerate SPN, based on what I've heard, but then I only have hearsay to go by -- never actually seen an ep, myself. People are still watching Dollhouse as well, and that makes me go o.O a LOT.

I've been avoiding Glee fandom for those very reasons.

1) You wedding is made of equal parts awesome and win. RPG dice+Rock Band=amazing! (Congratulations, BTW!)

2) Must have that furniture! I love the Alexandria Codex because comic boxes are so stinking unattractive. I hate having to hide them in my closet.

Yeah, pretty much I'm just sticking to talking to fox1013 about it, since we are watching the same show and it is delightful and sometimes mean.

And thanks :) I am alternately very excited and kind of stressed, 'cause boy, my family is going to hate every single part of my wedding and I am trying to convince myself I don't care. But Rock Band should be fun and then we can all sing Don't Stop Believin'.

The furniture is awesome! I really really want the table and if I hadn't given away all my comics, I would want the Codex too. But as it is, I don't have anything to put in there.
