If I were to be pimped into Supernatural, what single episode should I watch? (Other than "Phantom Traveller" which I am downloading for hot hot Cadman-ness.)
I personally like Dead In The Water, Home, the Pilot, and Scarecrow a whole bunch. But that's just me. Dead in the Water has Amy Acker. And Faith has Julie Benz.
Hmm... that's a tough one, since the best episodes kind of build on what came before and therefore don't make the best introduction.
I'd say, "Skin," "Home" or "Asylum" would all make good starting points. "Phantom Traveller" is actually one of my three least favorite, though it has its moments.
Or you could just be a traditionalist and start with the pilot. :-) It has some painfully clunky exposition in the first 20 minutes, but it does everything a pilot is supposed to do -- sets up a clear picture of the characters, the mythology and the overall feel of the show.
If you saw the pilot, then I think "Home" would be a good choice for watching next.
Sometimes I think it's fortunate that I didn't see the pilot until several weeks after I was already hooked. Then again, this show has eaten my brain so completely, it probably wouldn't have mattered. I was obviously ripe for the picking. :-)
SPN is the fandom the flist has been trying to recruit me into since um. the premiere, i think. if you are successfully drawn in, omg let me know and then try to recruit me because a) we would be in a fandom together again! and b) i would be able to talk to my flist again!
i just can never seem to make myself actually watch an episode. i saw part of one at Christmas! my niece loves it!
But yes, epsodes build on each other and Sam is totally broody and sulky and you need to hit him upside the head but Dean is snarky wonderful but I LOVE THEM BOTH SO.
Home was delicious but 'm not sure if t would be as a stand alone though the Missour love is great. Hmmmmm. I liked Bloody Mary as an early ep, and it has Dean wanting to smack Sam upside the head.
Skin has bondage. I mean. Um. Good moments.
But I might be too base to refer. Let me consult and get back to you.
I think "Asylum" would be a good one-- it gets to the heart of the Sam/Dean relationship pretty quickly. And I personally find abandonned mental institutions wicked creepy, so it had that going for it.
Also good possibilities: "Home," "Scarecrow," and "Skin."
My vote is for Phantom Traveller or Home. Home was great, but only if you've seen the Pilot. Skin was pretty excellent as well, and I really liked Bloody Mary.
I'd vote for Faith, because it has Julie Benz, and also because Dean does this really hot swoon thing when the faith healer touches him (what? I never said I was deep), or Nightmare, because it has Sam becoming Cordelia (OMG!headachevisions!) and the boys dress up like priests, which is dirty, wrong and hot.
Also, the most recent ep, Shadow, they get emo and almost cry.
"Faith" might be a good place for you to start because it's an interesting look into Dean and how he functions, what he believes in, and what keeps him going.
I don't usually pimp shows--I really kind of suck at it--but I'll give it a try. Dean may not be exactly what you like in a character, but he does have a certain sense of responsibility and the need to do right that might appeal to you. That's something you can see in "Faith."
My favourites (so far) are "Skin" and "Asylum". That's absolute "I LOVE these episodes" favourites. I was personally somewhat underwhelmed by "Dead in the Water" and "Home".

Phantom Traveller has Cadman-from-SGA as a flight attendent.
