the evidence
Mar. 29th, 2006 11:07 pmI...still can't decide if Rob Estes and Orlando Jones are slashy. I know they are friends and lifepartners, but I'm not sure if the sexin' is there.
The show is awfully gay, though.
Also, better than last week! Yay for The Evidence! Next week looks to be a manpainy hour of dickitude, but I suppose into every craptastically shallow and wonderful show a little pain must fall.
Which is to say that The Evidence has just become appointment tv in the way that Stargate Atlantis is/was appointment tv *and* it lets me watch Rob Estes and Orlando Jones (ONE BAND! ONE SOUND!) be stylish and bantery. There are worse ways to spend an hour.
ETA:
thelionforreal, this could be our shared fandom! It is stylish! and gay! and possibly slashy but even if it's not slashy they're kind of lifepartner-y, and there's Martin Landau! and Overly Made Up Random British Chick! and Hot Hot Hot Lieutenant Lady!
The show is awfully gay, though.

Does that make sense?
The show is awfully gay, though.
Totally but it's like playful gay.

Date: 2006-03-30 07:25 am (UTC)And yes, Rob Estes and Orlando Jones are very much a *couple* and that makes me happy, so yes, that totally made sense.
Plus there are multiple recurring characters of color! They are officers of the law! There is snarky banter! It's like this show was made for me!
Happiness all 'round!

Date: 2006-03-30 07:38 am (UTC)The ending drove that home. Rob Estes' character didn't fly into a het panic when the gentleman made the pass. It was all gentle and friendly and I loved the thoughtful amused look that he had on his face after it was over. Almost like he was thinking, "Huh, I'm a good one."
And who is the Hot Hot Lieutenant Lady? I know I've seen her before and it's driving me crazy!

Now that's just evil!

Date: 2006-03-30 07:53 am (UTC)Though, okay, I have to admit I was *totally* hoping that Orlando Jones would walk in and sit down and they'd smile at each other and start cracking wise. Just...the whole episode dealt with the gay community in a totally fair way where it wasn't so much an issue and that made me feel all warm inside.
And dude! Hot Hot Lieutenant Lady is totally a mystery! I too checked IMDB and the ABC website and got no love.

I was totally expecting Orlando to walk in and have a seat and they'd continue their conversation from that morning. But I was still happy with the way it played out.
The way that they dealt with the dead man's partner was so good. After the initial shock, they were gentle and understanding even as they asked the hard questions that they had to ask. They were respectful without the "wink wink nudge nudge aren't they weird" vibe.
The other thing: the partners have secrets from each other. Sean (Rob E.) has his garage and Cayman (Orlando) has his soon to be released brother. Drama!

Date: 2006-03-30 07:41 am (UTC)Totally right there with you. They're couply, but I'm not sure if they're....
Okay, honestly, right now I can't say that I care because it is a totally gay cop show that is fun! And also a very hot Lieutenant (who is driving me insane going "omg, where have I seen you before"?).

Date: 2006-03-30 08:03 am (UTC)The gay thing worked for me so much, mainly because it was so natural. Yup, the boxer was gay. Yup, he was afraid it would damage his rep as a boxer if it came out. Moving on now, because we have a plot and it's not "gay omg."
I want bantery lifeparter fic.

Date: 2006-03-30 08:06 am (UTC)Yes! We had a case to work on. Boxing corruption! So much more interesting.
Success!

Date: 2006-03-30 07:59 am (UTC)And given that I have not seen the 4400, I think she is pinging for me because she looks like Shane from S:AAB. Which may be my crackheadedness, but still.
Re: Success!
Date: 2006-03-30 08:05 am (UTC)Y'know, she does look a lot like Kristin Cloke (Shane V.).
