"Aw, come on! That's a bunch of horse shit! Lando Calrissian was a black guy, you know. He got to fly the Millennium Falcon! What's the matter with you?"

"Who said that?"

"I did. Lando Calrissian is a positive role model in the realm of science fiction/fantasy."

"Fuck Lando Calrissian, uncle tom nigga. Always some white boy gotta invoke the holy trilogy. Bust this: those movies are about how the white man keeps the brother man down, even in a galaxy far, far away. Check this shit. You've got cracker farmboy Luke Skywalker -- nazi poster boy, blond hair, blue eyes -- and then you got Darth Vader, the blackest brother in the galaxy -- Nubian god!"

"What's a Nubian?"

"Shut the fuck up! Now, Vader, he's a spiritual brother, down with the Force and all that good shit. And then this cracker -- Skywalker -- gets his hands on a lightsaber and the boy decides he's gonna run the fucking universe. Gets a whole clan of whites together and they gonna bust up Vader's 'hood, the Death Star. Now what the fuck do you call that?"

"Intergalactic civil war?"

"GENTRIFICATION! They're gonna drive out the black element to make the galaxy quote unquote safe for white folks. And Jedi's the most insulting installment! Because Vader's beautiful black visage is sullied when he pulls off his mask to reveal a feeble, crusty old white man. They tryin' to tell us that deep inside we all want to be white!"

"...Well isn't that true?"

It never stops being funny to *me*. (right click save)

"What's a Nubian?" is my favorite line in any Kevin Smith movie ever. For some reason -- I blame Jason Lee's delivery -- it never ceases to make me die laughing.

It's a toss up for me between "What's a Nubian?" and "...Well isn't that true?"

And those two lines are 90% of the reason I love Jason Lee.

It never stops being funny in our house either. The Male and I quote this endlessly. In fact, the generic exclamation of disgust when someone's said or done something stupid is, "What's a Nubian." in withering tones. *G*

Hey, that part ran on the reel every day, every hour when I worked at the 'Stache and it still hasn't stopped being funny. So. Yeah, lasting power.

It is an awesome scene and one of the best comedic exchanges I can remember from recent movies. And it's just so *spot on* that it makes me wiggle in glee.

Kevin Smith proves that you can be a very smart man and still enjoy making poop jokes. I love the Star Wars analyses from his films - that one, and the one in Clerks about the Death Star being full of construction workers who may or may not be considered innocent.

And "nazi poster boy" gets Triumph of the Will as his victory moment in ANH... ew.

Thank you for this. It's given me a giggle. But now I'm bitching about race casting in Sci-fi over at [livejournal.com profile] eeb_bee.

And I love, "What's a Nubian?"

Race casting in sci fi (and fantasy) is such a hot button issue for me that I tend to avoid it as much as I can or laugh at it. Otherwise I just get incoherently furious and start cussing.

Hence the Chasing Amy-age.

Do you know I actually owe my love of Kevin Smith to Jack Davenport sort of?

See, I saw The Talented Mr Ripley, and kind of liked Jack and Matt and all, and of course then I heard about Matt and Ben and had to get out a Ben movie to see what he was like...

And I just sort of happened to pick up Chasing Amy.

So because of The Talented Mr Ripley, I saw Kevin Smith's movies.

That's got to be some kind of odd commentary...
