Also, dude, I have that problem with my vidding as well. And I thought my computer was pretty shiny. Well, it's pretty new. It's possible I skimped on the memory stuff because I wasn't planning to run high-end games on it and then whoops, slipped and fell on Movie-Maker. But yeah. It's a bitch.
There's nothing insane about Norrington love! And I'm still processing him in DMC0- looking forward to the vids and the fic, as I tend to process better when I have something to look at and say 'nooooo, that's not it'- or 'YES!!! Yes, exactly!'
A large part of the vidding process for me with this one was trying to figure out where Norrington was coming from as a character. And part of my hesitation with posting the thing publically -- other than the poor quality of the source -- is that I'm not entirely sure it makes him *sympathetic*.

But you say that like it's a bad thing! badass!selfcentered!Norrington could be pretty cool.
Oh, I *love* ruthless badass Norrington and I, personally, don't think he owes anyone in DMC a damn thing (also, I just...don't understand how his motivations are somehow less worthy than anyone else's), but I am still wary of the whole villain accusation from the first movie and fannish go 'round and I don't want to contribute to that. But dang, he's pretty when he's out-manipulating everyone.
I think I'm still a little fuzzy in my own mind as to how I think he got from the end of PotC to the beginning of DMC. What drove him to try and sail through a hurricane? Pure hubris? That doesn't quite 'click'. And I took his chasing of Jack and the Pearl as more an honorable game than an obsession that would cause him to risk his ship and his men in something foolhardy. I mean- he gave the guy a head start at the end of PotC!
And then to resign his commission and seek out Jack in order to... I'm not dead sure what.
I like where James is at the beginning of DMC, and I like him in the movie. Like you, I don't think he owes anyone a damn thing- or that his motivations are less worthy.
It's the gap in between the movies I'm still trying to grok. Oh- and I've heard they cut some bits that would have put Norrington in a more sympathetic light- hoping they show up in the DVD extras. (Hell, I may have heard about them from you!)
Heh- I'm just interested in him as always. And I hope the final installment does right by him. I keep thinking of all he's lost, himself most of all- and how bloody unfair it is.
It's going to be interesting to see how new canon gets brought into the fandom. Main thing I've noticed so far is a lot more Jack/Elizabeth.
I also thought that the chase would be more of a kisstag ha ha I got you funtime than it turned out to be, but I can see how Norrington would have that sort of...obsessive focus that would make him blind to um. You know. Physical impossibilities. 'Cause wow, that man's spirit is willing like *whoa*.
And I totally read the resignation of his commission as being a result of what happened rather than a continuation and escalation of the chase. Like, Norrington couldn't, in good conscience, keep his commission if he had failed so spectacularly as a commander as to lose his ship and his men in a pursuit that took him out of his own territory (*Tripoli*, boo? Seriously?). I'm not entirely grooving on the lengths he went to, but the aftermath of it -- the resignation and the subsequent removal to Tortuga -- seem pretty well in character.
Which is, you know, a long winded way of saying, I totally agree.
