I totally love and adore KevinConroy!Batman, but I *really* love and adore KevinConroy!Old Cranky Bruce Wayne. He beat the crap out of hyena guy (amusingly, voiced by the guy who did the really nutball hyena in Lion King) with his cane and looked like it made him ridiculously happy to do so.

Oh, *Bruce*.

ETA: The cane continues to be hilarious.

ETA2: Also, until I learn otherwise, I have decided Ace was a present from Clark. Just so Clark could rag on Bruce for leaving a dog to guard the batcave. And Bruce looked suspiciously at Ace and asked Clark, "Does he shoot heat beams from his eyes?" And Clark was all, "No. But he'll bark if people get too close." "Does he bite?" "Only when he needs to." And then they share a significant look and very obviously do not hug. Because Bruce doesn't hug people. And if they did, he'd hit Clark in the head with the cane.

ETA3: Oh, Seth. Oh, *Seth*. I love that he plays the big bully guy. That's *awesome* in its funny.

ETA4:

I rented Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Batman Beyond: The Movie (which has four episodes of the series as well) because Kevin Conroy is made of win and I liked what I saw of Cranky Old Bruce Wayne in "Once and Future Thing, Part 2." And it's...interesting. Clearly, I love Bruce (SO AWESOME OMG) and I love Commissioner Barbara Gordon and I love the reinvention of Gotham. I just...don't like Terry. He, much like Smallville!Clark, is a pretender to the throne.

And a lot of this is totally influenced by having seen both "Once and Future Thing" and "Epilogue" from JLU before seeing Batman Beyond proper and Terry is...well. Terry's an emo little dickface. I wanted to beat him with Bruce's cane during all but the last like, three minutes of "Epilogue" (which were totally saved by cranky grandma Bruce. "I made soup" indeed).

...yeah. "Epilogue" is totally fucking with my ability to be unbiased about Terry. 'Cause he's an emo little dickface. Like, dude, you don't pitch a fit and slap the cup out of an old woman's hand and then go on and on about how Oh Noes! Being Batman is a curse. Well, dude, fuck off then. Give up the suit. And his...fantasy sequence of Bruce was just offputting. Because okay, so I think Batman/Bruce Wayne is freaking adorable in his cranky misanthropic little way and I totally get that he's obsessive and focused and all Mission Uber Alles. I'm *fine* with that. That's Batman. But he's not -- at least animated!Batman is not -- *heartless*. He's not a psychopath, he's not lacking in feeling, he's not a guy that's going to be all, "So?" when he finds out that he's a *father*. As of "Epilogue," Terry's been working with Bruce for what? Fifteen years? In *fifteen years*, he couldn't get a good enough picture of who Bruce is that he would come up with *that* cracktastic fantasy sequence? Also, Dana is made of win and I hated that fantasy sequence too. Whatever, emo crimefighter, get over yourself.

And dude, okay also? I'm totally not on with Futuristic Emo Teen Angst + Batman. I wallowed in the teenaged angst with Buffy and I'm done. Emo Teenage Angst != Good Times in Sheila-world. And I'm watching Batman Beyond and fully expecting Buffy to pop out somewhere and stake a vampire because it's set up the exact same way. And just...no. My mind sort of falters at combining emo teen angst with Batman.

I think a lot of people choose not to accept "Epilogue" as canon, so you can opt out if you want to!

Oh, I *loved* "Epilogue." Er, largely because I love Amanda Waller and I love Bruce. It's just Terry I can't stand (though I was sort of fine with him once he pulled his head out of his ass), so I don't have a problem with it as canon. And I'm just not invested enough in Terry as Batman to care about his angst, so I'm generally okay with it. I think, though, despite my crazy mad love for 80-95 year old Bruce, Batman Beyond is just not a show for me.

I love Commissioner Barbara Gordon

She is voiced by my most favorite of Law & Order's sassy brunette ADAs, Angie Harmon, who played Abby Carmichael for four seasons of the show. Abby was entirely made of awesome and I've always loved Angie's voice, so I was thrilled that she voiced Barbara in Return of the Joker.

Like, dude, you don't pitch a fit and slap the cup out of an old woman's hand and then go on and on about how Oh Noes! Being Batman is a curse. Well, dude, fuck off then. Give up the suit.

*Exactly*. That's exactly why I have, like, zero patience for Terry or SV!Clark or even Spiderman2!Peter (at least until he does, in fact, make the decision to give up the suit). Dudes, no one's forcing you to do shit. If you want to live a normal life, you can; no one's stopping you. So either STFU and live the normal life or STFU and accept that you're special and destined and no one else can do what you can do.

*g* I have nothing but agreement, so. *Word.*

Like, I was okay with Buffy being all, "Noes!" because being a Slayer wasn't something she initially chose and it wasn't really something she could give up. But the others...they could choose to live normally and they chose not to. You don't get to do that and then bitch about how it ruins your life, especially if you keep doing it.

Quit it, emo crimefighters! You're all much better when you're punching things.
