Sean Maher not acting at all! John Stamos being hot! A network movie with a gay lead where they didn't make him lisp!
...perhaps I have set the bar too low.
My mom and her bf kept coming in and bitching about how bad it was. THEY DO NOT KNOW FROM BAD MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES. They have not seen the stuff Ponce and I have sat through for various obscure actors, including The Hewlett. They know not of what they speak.
Sean Maher did not act! And yet he was like, *ten times* more charming and natural and believable than he ever was as Simon. And I say this as a person who *likes* Simon.
But no! I do not think you have set the bar too low! Because the movie treated John Stamos and Sean Maher as if they were any other couple! Like, it was more about how they were a couple than about how they were gay! I was impressed and surprised!
And it was just...sweet. Completely divorced from reality, but sweet. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised.
er, but it wasn't *good* either. It was just Not Completely Bad with some Genuinely Nice Moments.

Well, by "did not act" I don't mean that he wasn't doing a good job as an actor... I just meant that that man is the gayest gay man that's ever gayed a gay. Which might possibly be why he was more charming, natural and believable. Because as cute as Simon/Kaylee is? And as much as he had crazy-ass incestu-chemistry with River? GAY.
Which isn't to say that straight actors can't be believable and charming and natural in gay roles or that gay actors can't be believable and charming and natural in straight roles. But Sean Maher. So very, very gay.
If it turns out he's straight, I'm gonna look really stupid.

And they used the words "sex" and "damn"! (Actually, my only huge complaint was that I didn't give a shit about the hetero-wedding and therefore was not invested in "OMG, can we do it on time?!" But yeah. It was adorable. And John Stamos is still hot. (Although he really can't sing that well. Although I hear he played the Emcee in Cabaret. ...okay, now I want a bootleg of this. I need to see what this looks/sounds like.)
