It wasn't until later that Gunn remembered asking.

They'd been in West Hollywood, vision quest and job well done and still eating out on the first paycheck. A little hole in the wall restaurant, where Wesley started chatting up the waiter in Thai, and Cordelia made a face at Gunn, who could only shrug. And then after, they'd gotten the best service Gunn could ever remember getting in the Land of Racial Profiling, and that was maybe less because of the language thing and more because the waiter was looking to leave Wesley his number.

Gunn figured that one out on his own, between Wesley's apologetic little smile, and the quick glances at Cordelia, and then the laughing. Wesley blushed, and the waiter grinned at Gunn before saying, "Have a good evening, and come back again," in a totally normal voice, no trace of an accent.

Gunn couldn't help himself. "You an actor?"

"Isn't everyone?"

And wasn't that just the truth?

So he'd asked Wesley, on the way back in Gunn's truck, with Cordelia squished against the window and Wesley in between, about that guy.

"He's quite charming, really. His parents live in the flat two above mine."

"So he's like, your boyfriend."

"Geez, Gunn," mumbles Cordy against the window. "Abrupt much?"

Gunn snuck a glance over. Wesley looked apalled. "No. He's--no. A friend."

"A good friend?"

"Good enough," said Wesley, and that was that.
