...AHAHAHAHAHAHA. No.

So. I'm supposed to be cheering for the side what has Barbossa on it? REALLY? Barbossa? And against the side with my boo? Like, I am supposed to *not* be cheering for the anti-piracy people? Um. AHAHAHAHAHA No.

'Cause I will say again: what made CotBP awesome was not that it (entirely) posited PIRACY YAYS! but that it presented piracy as one way to be a good man *and* that it implied that there was a middle ground between Jack and Norrington (Will) that could be walked.

We have long since left that message in the dust. Whatevs, Jerry, Gore, and T&T, WAY TO SUCK THE CHARM OUT OF A FRANCHISE. Boo fucking hoo, piracy is being exterminated. BOO FUCKING HOO. Let me pull out the world's tiniest violin.

Just...no.

Butbutbut, Sheila! How can you not root for them? They're like, A WORKER'S UNION FIGHTING THE MAN! Or or or, the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, yeah? RIGHT??? Rooting for Jack Sparrow is like almost as good as wearing a Che shirt. They even kind of look alike!

I wouldn´t bet on anyone being on anyone´s side yet. And I guess the problem is that while Beckett claims to be anti-pirate, it´s more like they´re hindering *him* of plundering people himself - which (to me) seems even worse since he *should* be representing law and order and not just his own interests. (Which is why I´m hoping that the new "middle way" will be Norrington, who surely isn´t a pirate, but could turn against Beckett.)

I...wish I trusted T&T, Gore, and Jerry that much. Really, truly I do. And I'm totally down with being all Beckett Is Teh Evol Noes! but...they don't seem to actually be differentiating between Norrington, Beckett, and Davy Jones and that makes me worry.

I haven't even watched the trailer yet, I will confess. I am hiding. It's fun!

Hiding may in fact be the best solution!

LOL! Absolutely, I don't understand it either. But it did move me to make the icon :)

Norrington and Beckett working together to stamp out piracy on the high seas? Sounds good to me! (Seriously, if it's a choice between Barbossa or Beckett, I'll go with Beckett.)

*g* I'm not a fan of Beckett's, but like...seriously. How am I supposed to be on Barbossa's side? How does that make sense? argh!

I feel sure that I wouldn't be this fond of Beckett if the other side wasn't so shady. But when he goes through the film with a big 'this is the villain' sign above his head, while actually not in any way being worse than the 'heroes' then I feel like I ought to cheer for him out of simple fairness.

Because exactly - the other side is *Barbossa's* side, and just *no*.

I'm just fretting. Fretting, fretting, fretting. Because the shot of Norrington amidst the other "enemies" (in what universe are Beckett and Norrington on the same side?) makes me fret for his continued existence. Rumours say he's not going to make it - but then, it might actually be for the best, after what they've done to him in DMC.

*nod* I'm not as upset with what happened in DMC, but AWE just looks like...the antithesis of what I can deal with in a movie. No fun at all.

Well, to answer your cut question: You're putting spoilers for the trailer behind the cut, because there are some crazy poor souls who prefer not even to watch the trailer--and you're nice that way.

I think there's going to be four levels of morality happening in AWE:

1. The evil pirates, represented by Sao and Barbossa (who you *totally* know is just using Will and Liz and going to turn on them as soon as he can);
2. The good pirates (Jack/Will/Liz) who, although outside of the law, are still generally ethical, well-intentioned people;
3. The good law-abidders, which is what Norrington (and to a lesser extent Governor Swann) represented in the first film and, I'm guessing, will come to represent in AWE. Norrington doesn't have the same information at the end of DMC about Beckett that the audience has had throughout the film. I think, once James gets a clue as to just how immoral Beckett and his Company are (and how much they are just like everything James hated about pirates from the get-go), he's going to turn on Beckett, *without* necessarily going pirate. (I think Swann will, too, if he doesn't first fall to Disney Parent Syndrome.)
4. Beckett, Mercer, and the EITC, who, while working within the law, are completely amoral and just as evil as the worst of the pirates.

Gosh, my hand is tired from all that fanwanking.

*snerk* I can (and often do) fanwank with the best, but I just...don't trust T&T at all. And I am all leery of having Norrington framed with Beckett and Davy Jones as The Enemies Of Piracy Noes.

I just. WTF, you know? Like, did they miss Pirate Movies 101? Because the whole *point* is that the pirates aren't like, shady motherfuckers. Except not in T&T/Gore/Jerry world. Shady motherfuckers ahoy!

argh.
