"Sugar, We're Going Down" - Fall Out Boy (38 mb, mpeg)
There's a dude with antlers. And a girl who is like, "YAY DUDE WITH ANTLERS IS TOTALLY AWESOME!" and her...dad? is also like, part deer. Or something. I dunno, man, like, I watch it and I wonder WTF. Mostly the guys are just really pretty in it and also I like the song. And I *completely* associate with Bam and Dunn. So like, whenever I hear "That's just who I am this week," I think of Bam! Being all Bam-like and kind of smirky and adorable. CURSE YOU INTERNET FOR TAKING THAT VID FROM ME.

"Dance Dance" - Fall Out Boy (40 mb, avi)
This video is just fucking adorable. And you get the joy of not one Fall Out Boy, but TWO! Two! Rockin' Band FOB and Totally Nerdy and Adorable FOB. Plus, seriously, so many bonus points for hotness.

"A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More 'Touch Me'" - Fall Out Boy (65 mb, mpg)
flail! Um. Um. Oh. Um. Pete is a *vampire*! An angsty vampire! Who drinks smoothies! Patrick does research and keeps a diary and builds weapons and TOTALLY GETS EATEN OMGWTF (um, not that like, I had really melodramatic fic ideas 'cause of it or anything)! ANDY IS A VAMPIRE KILLINATIN' SUPER NINJA GUY! how is that not totally fucking awesome? Joe is a marine! He totally beats the crap out of vampires with his bare hands! It is like the FOB homage to "Lost Boys" and BtVS/AtS!

"Candyman" - Christina Aguilera (21 mb, mp4)
One of these things is not like the other ones, one of these things just doesn't belong. Except for how it is totally wonderful and makes me giddy and sometimes I make high pitched noises of glee! Because um, yo, Christina Aguilera is hot and talented and the song is swingin' (no! really!) and also a little raunchy and just...*happy*. This is mostly here for [livejournal.com profile] sathinks, because I'm working on converting the other pop files and this one was handily on my hard drive.

"Welcome to the Black Parade" - My Chemical Romance (53 mb, mpg)
I cannot watch this video without giggling a lot. Which is totally not the reaction they are going for, I think, but there it is. It's...Dude, it's about a goth marching band from hell. And like, death and stuff? But mostly what I take away from it is, "hee hee, goth marching band from hell!" It's a *gorgeous* video and postapocalyptic and um, well. Goth marching band! From hell! FTW!

My Chemical Romance
MCR is catchy as all get out and I really like The Black Parade as an album. It works and it's a decent alternative rock/punk concept album and I love the various styles of music they play with. And I totally like to play their music really loudly in my car and do the shouty singy thing while rocking the fuck out on the 405.

"Astro Zombies" - Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (Misfits cover)
with just a touch of my burning hand / I'm gonna live my life to destroy your world
um, yes. It is an awesome song and an even more awesome soundtrack. Fun!

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" - Kevin and Bean's Christmastime in the 909 (Mariah Carey cover)
...AHAHAHAHAHA. It's a *Mariah Carey* cover. I just. Are there even words? I do not think there are! It is very MCR-esque.

"Famous Last Words" - The Black Parade
can you see / my eyes are shining bright / 'cause I'm out here / on the other side / of a jet black hotel mirror
Sure, guys. You totally aren't emo. Totally.

"Teenagers" - The Black Parade
they said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me / they could care less as long as someone'll bleed
I fucking love this song. It's catchy as fuck *and* it's blackly funny *and* it's fun to sing along with at top volume. Also, AWESOME GUITAR SOLO.

"Welcome to the Black Parade" - The Black Parade
a world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams / your misery and hate will kill us all / so paint it black and take it back
I love, love, love the intro to this song. It's melodramatic and OTT and yet totally awesome with the snare and the plaintiveness and references to the marching band. Also catchy. Sometimes I like to flail around in my car all spastically and drum along.

Fall Out Boy
Musically, two of the things I find really interesting about FOB is that a) the lyricist (Pete) is not the singer (Patrick) and how that separation totally puts this distance between the speaker in the song and the person speaking/singing and b) that the music (Patrick) is relatively rarely tonally in line with the lyrics. And I mostly find this interesting because it takes what would otherwise be...er, kind of twee and mockable and makes it into something that feels a lot more ironic and bearable. But there is that conflict between the lyrics and the music and the intimacy of *being in Pete's head* and the distance of hearing it through the filter of Patrick's voice and how that's a little bit like the dichotomy between Pete Wentz: The Attention Whore and Pete Wentz: The Kind of Cliche Emo Dude and how he's really the only one in that band who *is* emo and just. Yeah. Look, I never said I was nice. Just that I was in love.

"Hand of God" - Infinity on High (bonus track)
so which is it: the boy who writes the songs or the boy who's in them? / who's the girl? is this truth or is he writing fiction?
Heee. This is *fabulously* meta in terms of the emo scene. But I don't entirely understand why it's a bonus track for IOH, because it so doesn't fit. And it's just kind of odd.

"What's This?" - The Nightmare Before Christmas (2006 re-release)
there's children throwing snowballs / instead of throwing heads / they're busy building toys / and absolutely no one's dead
This is a *fantastic* version of this song. Patrick totally does his best by Danny Elfman and it's all exuberant and awesome.

"Start Today" - Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (Gorilla Biscuits cover)
procrastinate it can wait, I put it off / let's start today
...seriously, the American Wasteland cd is FUCKING AWESOME. *cough*

"Yule Shoot Your Eye Out" - I do not know where this comes from, actually
don't come home for christmas / you're the last thing I wanna see
Oh, *Pete*.

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" - The Heart Will Always Be the B-Side To My Tongue (Joy Division cover)
do you cry out in your sleep? / all my feelings exposed / get a taste in my mouth / as desperation takes hold
Dude, they cover Joy Division! I love how restrained the verses are and then how rockin' the chorus is. And oh, Patrick. You can sing vulnerable sad songs to me whenever you want, boo.

"The Music or the Misery" - From Under the Cork Tree: Black Clouds and Underdogs/japanese bonus track
I went to sleep a poet, and I woke up a fraud / To calm your nerves I'm feeling for my clothes in the dark
So catchy! So emo! So...very FOB.

"Snitches and Talkers get Stitches and Walkers" - From Under the Cork Tree: Black Clouds and Underdogs/b-side to "Sugar..."
show me a starry-eyed kid / I will break his jaw
This is way more traditionally punk to me than most of their stuff.

"Roxanne" - Policia: A Tribute to the Police/Take This To Your Grave
you don't have to put on the red light / those days are over
Heeee. It's a punk cover of "Roxanne."

"G.I.N.A.S.F.S." - Infinity on High (bonus track, m4a)
I was born under a bad sign / but you saved my life
G.I.N.A.S.F.S. = Gay Is Not A Synonym For Shitty. Oh, Pete. This is an awesome song for twirling and bouncing around.

"It's Hard To Say 'I Do,' When I Don't" - Infinity on High (bonus track)
"This is a stick up / give us all your inspiration"
This (and GINASFS) are more in line with what FOB was doing with From Under the Cork Tree and Infinity On High. Also, I just like it a lot.

To Be Continued tonight! More FOB, other artists, and a discussion of soul and it's influence on IOH with examples.

Dude, thank you times a billion. There are, like, no mp4 files for popstuff online, and all my popvideos are at home in the States, and so I'm desperately missing all the nsync and christina and justin et al! Because I could watch it on my ipod. Etc. Anyway, thank you!!
