awesome: $10 reward certificate to DSW
not awesome: Man, how much money did I spend on shoes to get it that quickly?

awesome: did I mention the $10 reward certificate to DSW?
not awesome: I will just want to buy more shoes. I do not actually need more than 4 pairs of chucks. I want more than 4 pairs. But I do not need them.

awesome: I like my job. DQ* = awesome.
not awesome: white teenaged male gamers say some fucked up shit.

awesome: mint oreos and milk
not awesome: I cannot set people on fire with the power of my mind.

awesome: one of my current fandoms does not have writer-scripted canon. just mind-boggling amounts of adorable.
not awesome: my other current fandoms will be made sad by writer's strike.

awesome: wacky hijinks supernatural police procedurals with honorably stoic fucked up magical cops and/or lawyers that actually have a woman (of color) as the main character who gets to save the world a lot and discuss race/gender and the (mis)uses thereof in the modern world! Also sometimes there is kicking in the face!
not awesome: mocha. cafe latte.

awesome: some people
not awesome: everyone else.

I kinda want to do a pete/ray/gabe/alex/matt/travis/disashi picspam. 'cause you know what? they are supremely hot. and awesome. sorry. I was looking at pictures of Disashi and Travis and Alex Suarez today and flailing at them. And I'm always good with pictures of Ray Toro and his hot hot thighs.

THIS IS THE SINGLE GREATEST COMBINATION IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE EVER. Just in case you didn't know.

Also, now I am thinking about a Heroes spinoff where Monica is a cop. It is a very nice thought.

*g* I think it is a great tragedy of my life that I cannot set people on fire with the power of my mind!

And I think you should absolutely write a Heroes spinoff where Monica is a cop. She could kick people in the face. It would be *awesome*.

You can't put stuff like that out there and not share with the rest of the class, sheila. Names and links, kid, names and links.

*laugh* CE Murphy - Urban Shaman, Thunderbird Falls, Coyote Dreams: biracial native american/irish woman muddles her way through being a shaman and a cop. mostly interesting to me because of her struggles with belonging and making a place for herself in a bunch of cultures that aren't wholly her own.

also CE Murphy - Heart of Stone: black/native american/irish (I think Irish, anyway) lawyer who identifies as being black who gets all caught up in wacky supernatural race shenanigans; problematic in some ways though I give points for effort and the race thing comes into play pretty hardcore in the latter half of the book. I liked the latter half a lot better than the first.

John Ridley - Those Who Walk In Darkness, What Fire Cannot Burn: These are really, really problematic but I think they're also really really interesting. It's a world with mutants and the first book is told from the point of view of a black woman SWAT cop/weapons engineer who is...well. Pretty hardcore racist against the mutant population. And like I said, it's really problematic but she gets called on the racism multiple times and it's actually something really uncomfortable to read because (to me) it's all about how people justify racist behaviors and thought processes to themselves.

That's off the top of my head.

Ah ha! I have in fact read the Walker Papers (and there's a novella in a three story anthology w/ Mercedes Lackey [story's good if you like Misty] and Tanith Lee [kinda weird] Winter Moon, or something like that.)

Hadn't picked up Heart of Stone. Will try to get it from my library if they ever allow me to put it on hold.

Successfully put the first Ridley book on hold.

Thanks for the recs.

Shoes are the AWESOME.

Shoes are *totally* awesome. Maybe I can find a fabulous pair of boots. That would be a good use of that rewards certificate!

The funniest thing is when people are like, "But why was I suspended?" and I look and see it's for racist, violent language. Nice one, guys. Well done.

I think the only reason why I haven't been given this ability yet is that people would force me to use it too often. Especially while I'm driving.
