I think there should be Bob/Gerard smooching at some point to combat heteronormativity the prejudice against interspecies relationships! Except, you know, that's just what Gerard is like, so Bob knows it doesn't mean anything. Bob would get a lot of shit from all the other guardsmen, but he'd manage to keep it all from Gerard, through a combination of huge effort and Gerard's general obliviousness.

Also, you know, in some ways the descriptions of Ankh-Morpork aren't all that different from the Ways' descriptions of New Jersey.

And Bob is all sad because he knows Gerard's just doing it to be all political and save lives, so maybe when someone--a guard, a witness, a criminal--starts in on abominations and suchlike and Gee gets The Look in his eyes Bob maybe sort of makes himself very available and close by.
