Wow. The Teenagers and Teen Spirit comparison is a little... uncanny.

The first time I saw the "Teenagers" video, I was all, "Wait, I've seen this video before and it had Kurt Cobain in it that time..."

So yeah, it's a little similar. And then last night I was watching other Nirvana videos and I watched the beginning of Heart Shaped Box and was all !!!! because that opening shot is pretty much the same as Welcome to the Black Parade.

And then I laughed.

It's kind of bizarre to me, as I've watched both of the Making the Videos and I can't decide if they'd mention it if it were on purpose or not.

If the Teenagers one is on purpose (and my god, how can it not be? Well. Okay, there are ways), it makes that video make a lot more sense for me.

I assumed that it was a deliberate homage to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" because, uh, that was kind of a landmark video in a lot of ways and they're dealing with kind of the same subject matter and so I just...assumed.

It makes so much sense! I just never made the connection because I'm... superlame at making connections like that. In fact, my mind is almost blown at how much sense it makes. This is like when I realized that Baa Baa Black Sheep and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star AND the ABC Song all had the same tune.

...THEY DO?

OMG THEY DO.

I am, uh, not particularly *fast* when it comes to some things.

I think the "Teenagers" vid was meant to be an homage. But it's really pretty boring, other than the pretty--I wish they'd stuck to making "fake movie trailer" videos.

Heee! See, I kind of like the Teenagers video. It's nutty and Gerard totally spazzes out and Ray and Bob are hot.

Apparently that's all I really need to make me happy in a MCR video.

I really like how both Teen Spirit and Teenagers are similar, but the differences between the videos reflect the way times have changed, and the differing attitudes of youth.

It doesn't feel like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came out that long ago and then I remember that it was The Big Deal of 1992 and that's...15 years now. Which is *crazy* to me.

But yeah, it's an interesting look at how things have changed.

Sorry to butt in, but the timing of you making this post cracked me up. We had Teenagers on the video jukebox when we were out at lunch yesterday, and a non-MCR-fan friend was joking that videos shouldn't be allowed to have cheerleaders in it, noting the similarity between it and Smells Like Teen Spirit. And I pointed out that Smells Like Teen Spirit was fifteen years ago, and everyone was like "...omg we're old".

15 years ago! That's. It can't POSSIBLY have been that long! If it were a person, it'd be in high school!

And Dookie is 13 years old and I'm just. What? How is that even possible?

I was 2 years old when Teen Spirit came out. :) I guess I've got a different perspective.

Heee. No, I know, my mind is just boggling that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is old enough to be in high school now. I'm gonna hide in my bed until I stop feeling ridiculously old now.

If 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' went to high school, he'd be the grungy kid writing things like, 'God is dead' on his Converse sneakers during match class.
