oh man, you guys, remember when we were all hopeful that Episode I wasn't going to SUCK LIKE A HOOVER?

I have to admit, though, I still feel all thrilled when I see the "A long, long time ago..." pop up on the screen and the opening notes to the theme start up.

The music still gives me chills, even if the movie was... less than stellar. When it came out, I was ALL ABOUT IT, though. I have a special edition VHS. I wore my hair with a padawan braid (Oh god, I had forgotten until I found my freshman year student id on my last trip home and IT ALL CAME BACK. Padawan braid and Superman T-shirt. DOOMED TO NERDDOM FOR. EVER.)

Though, honestly, I forgive a lot for Episode I because it gave me Ewan MacGregor so geekily excited about lightsabers that he made his own lightsaber noises while rehearsing fight scenes. Adorable forever.

There were parts of Episode I that I loved. Ewan McGregor being, uh, most of that. Him and Darth Maul.

Ah, Qui-Gon! I was all about Qui-Gon Jinn for about three years, and I still have an unfinished novel in the fandom. I have to say that I loved TPM completely - it made me want to buy a plastic lightsabre and jump about my bedroom pretending to be a Jedi. For me it was episode 2 that killed the vibe - no single person in it I could actually like.

I loved Obi-Wan through the whole prequel tragedy, as his immense crankiness and WTF expression made the rest of it bearable. But yeah, Episode I didn't kill it for me, though it put a few nails in the prequel coffin.

OMG, do you remember? everyone i knew was excited and worried that it wouldn't be good and then there was that trailer and we all took in a huge sigh of relief because it looked AWESOME.

it's a shame whoever cut the trailer (apparently) had nothing to do with the movie.

it's also funny that the ptm in my mind has very little resemblance to the actual movie. i've blocked out and changed quite a bit of it. i mean, come on, who really needed three endless laps in the pod race?

oh god, I was SO excited. and uh. Then I saw the movie? And I was still excited because Obi Wan was *fantastic* but there was that ever-increasing dread because of the rest of it.

It is pretty amazing, I have to admit. Really gifted actors! Really TERRIBLE script. It's like a miracle of what not to do.

Ewan=my-t-fine, but most of the rest of the movie? Needed to be de-jarjar-ed and Ewan-ed up. Putting a little more Ewan in wouldn't have hurt, either.
