I sort of hate to bitch about other people's fic, but- oh my GOD, I KNOW. Once I could handwave, but twice in one fic? (And the line about waiting for her period to see if it's all okay- JESUS, people, this is what the morning after pill was invented for. Gahhh.) It was a good fic otherwise, which possibly just makes it more distressing. :(

I mean, I'm probably not as pro-safe sex in my own fic as I should be, but for some reason it freaks me out way more in het fic than in slash. Risk of pregnancy = BAD.

I don't know, man. I kind of find condoms sexy, but then I was indoctrinated but good having come of age in the late 80's/early 90's. Also, I have an aunt who just got diagnosed with fucking HepC because she has a (married) boyfriend who doesn't like condoms. There's nothing sexy about that at all.

I admit I didn't always write safe sex when I wrote fic. But where it seemed relevant (i.e., not crazy future space smut), I tried to bring them in.

I think for some people fic is purely about escapist fantasy, a land where there are no STDs. I understand that perspective, but it's still weird to read, frex, characters from a show set anytime in the past 30 years having the vigorous buttsex without ever mentioning it.

The fic I read which prompted this was het (sort of. oh, genderswap) and there was unprotected sex *twice*, once with the assertion of "We'll be more careful next time, but it's okay, I'm clean" and then a pregnancy scare with the next dude. And I seriously just went *flail* at the whole thing and promptly freaked out.

And now I feel compelled to do a prophylactics-a-go-go challenge.
