Books I am looking forward to in the latter bit of the year:

Bitten to Death by Jennifer Rardin - More vampire assassins for the CIA! Woo! in August

Hands of Flame by CE Murphy - Lawyers! Magical races! I didn't love The Queen's Bastard and god knows the Negotiator series isn't my favorite by her (I like it, I do, but I liked the second book way more than the first and it's still not my favorite, which is saved for the Walker Papers 'cause uh. That has magic. And cops.) but I'm sufficiently interested (and invested!) in the main character that I will be picking it up. August or September.

Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs. So, I really like the Mercy Thompson series a lot and I believe this book is a continuation of a short story I *loved* in the On the Prowl anthology. FWIW, I have yet to read a book by Patricia Briggs that I didn't really like. ETA: According to Amazon, this book is in stock, so I will be stopping by Borders/Barnes and Noble to see if it is. Fingers crossed! I'm all excited! YAY FOR BOOKS!

Cast in Fury by Michelle Sagara - Magic! Cops! I uh. I dunno about you guys, but I tend to read most of the people in this series of books as being people of color. Yes, even the ones with wings. and the dragons. IDEK. They may not be, god knows I'm terrible at catching descriptions of people, but yeah, it's pretty much my default. In October.

Swallowing Darkness by LKH. God help me, I'm actually looking forward to this. Faerie porn shenanigans! Also, good lord, the ugliest website in the history of ugly websites. It looks like a geocities reject from 1998. In November.

It's interesting. Like, it starts from kind of a skeevy place, but the whole point of the book is that the skeeviness is...well. Skeevy. Um. Also it has POC, which is a major selling point for me.

I ended up really liking it. Enough that I stayed up all night reading it even though I had interviews the next day. Yeah, the skeeviness got to me, but the book handled it well.
