I just bought it, actually. I'd never read it before! And then it was there and I love Robin McKinley usually and I don't know why it took me so long to read it, but now I am all <33333333 at Harimad-sol.

I actually dislike a lot of what Robin McKinley writes, but that book was one of the first sci fi/fantasy books I ever read and I just love it like burning. Have you read the prequel?

Hee. I loved (LOVED) Outlaws of Sherwood and Beauty. And that love lingers, though Deerskin is kind of creepy. Where by "kind of" I mean "it gave me nightmares."

And I read the prequel before I read the one with Harimad, because I'm kind of weird about reading things in order. The Narnia books drove me insane because of that.

Deerskin: so traumatizing! I think I remember liking Beauty, but a lot of the time she loses me at the end of her books where they go from comprehensible to really freaking weird.

I kind of want to go back and read Deerskin to see if it's still as traumatizing now as it was when it first came out.

I've thought about it. I read it when I was like 9 and really didn't get what was going on except that it was bad bad bad and creepy.
