1) My druid made it to 80. Yay! Raiding here I come!

2) /facepalm at the continued imbroglio fail.

3) Finished 40,000 in Gehenna and quite liked it, even while I spent some time scratching my head and going, "Hm," at it and wondering how anyone could take Genley seriously. Before I can move on to other Cherryh, I have a book by Gail Z Martin to read and 2 books by Doug Westerfeld.

4) I have watched some anime recently. Anime that worked for me: Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex and Bleach. Anime that is iffy for me: Hellsing. Anime that didn't work for me: Gaogaigar, Fullmetal Alchemist

5) We've put in offers on 2 places (one of them twice, wtf) and not gotten either one. I can wish there were more transparency in the real estate process, but eh.

Things continue. Feel free to continually recommend books to me. I always like them.

See, we're watching Standalone Complex at the moment and we're up to, hmm, episode 12? And it's boring the hell out of me. I think part of it is that I feel like I can't intuit because I don't know enough about the world; they have to tell me everything, and I don't understand half of what they tell me until they tell me what it means, which means I'm getting antsy through inability to participate. This is sort of fascinating to me as an exploration of how I consume media, but isn't making me keen to watch more of the series.

On the other hand, I'm also starting to read Name of the Wind and it's boring the hell out of me too, so maybe I'm just persnickety at the moment. *G*

Heh, Name of the Wind bored the piss out of me too. I spent the whole time going, "Really? Really? Have we not...learned a new story?" and then making frowny face at it.

Standalone Complex is...it's working for me largely on the strength of liking the characters and thinking I might like the world if I understood it better. At some point, I'm being shown the movies, so maybe that will help.

I'm only something like 50 pages in, but I have this dark and lurking suspicion that the author is actually just plain not good enough - or at least not experienced enough - to tell this story to its best advantage. One of these days I make make a considered, supported statement on this. The amusing thing is that I picked it up about six times in bookstores and only got halfway through the blurb before I went, "ugh, wank," and put it back. Now that I sit down after 50 pages and read the blurb all the way through, I go, "Wait, there's a good story in this blurb, but it's about a world after and without heroes, not a world with and the exploits of heroes." I dunno. I will persevere for at least a bit. At least enough to get into the dude's actual story.

I saw the movie (there's more than one? innnteresting!) so many years ago I can't really remember very much of it. And yeah, it does seem like an interesting world, and every time they do something awesome, like show us barcoded pigs or have a brain in a box or just go invisible, I perk up in interest. Although dude, what is WITH the Major's outfit? We have fits of giggles at least once an episode. *G*

I had a pretty similar experience with picking up the book and putting it back multiple times. And in the end I mostly just read it and went, "Oh look, it's a super duper magical guy who is super duper special and has super duper special things happen to him" and I'd kind of wished I'd left it at the store. It's not poorly written, but it's very...my impression of it was that it thought it was something new and shiny and special and it just wasn't. I ended up giving it away.

And yeah, I spend a lot of time while watching the show going, "...really? That outfit? REALLY?" and rolling my eyes. I do recommend Bleach, though. That's amusing and people have swords.

You! A druid! Feral or resto. Or... gasp... boomkin?

...I always thought you'd be more of a shammy type, actually ;-)

What server are you on, girlie?

Feral cat with a sideline in resto if my guild needs it.

My *next* character is going shammy.

And I'm on Black Dragonflight :)
