We put in another offer on another place and it's been accepted by the seller. Now it just needs to be accepted by the bank and then we enter escrow. It is a 2 bedroom place in Lake Forest (eeeee so excited/nervous/excited)! If it happens, I will be moving out 30 days after that.

So, naturally, in an excess of enthusiasm, I started looking at appliances and paint and thinking of ways to decorate (we have a HUGE number of nerdy posters. Like all three LotR ones and 2 Superman Returns ones, 3 WoW cinematic posters, a Starcraft one, etc and we're getting them framed for epic decoration of taste and class) and so I was looking at paint colors.

You guys, you guys, you guys: there's a paint color called "krypton." and it's a pretty pale blue. I think I have found the color my bedroom is going to be! yay!

Good luck! And get a good home inspector... (Yeah, can you tell we just bought as well...)

Also, as someone who just had basically a whole house painted, my advice is to buy little 2 oz samples of the colors you are thinking about using and get a small whiteboard/brush to paint it on (the paint place usually has both) - the colors are always slightly different (usually darker) than they appear on the color sample or paper color. Then you can compare the colors to your carpets or furniture or whatever. Many paint places have a color "consultant" that can help if you have difficult rug/furniture colors.

If you are interesting, Benjamin Moore makes an Eco-spec paint in all it's colors that is the same cost as regular paint but with zero VOC's (volatile organic compounds). VOC's can linger in the air/come off the paint for years and make some homes more air poluted than the outside air (this is the odor of new paint also). The typical paint people use for low-VOC (not ero like the eco-spec) is the Aura brand - but it's twice as much. The Eco-spec is being discontinued in a couple of years, though, as they bring on a new green paint if that makes a difference to you.

I haven't used the Eco-spec, but I can vouch for how awesome the Aura is - I didn't even see the Eco-spec option, but the two colors I fell in love with were in the Aura line only anyway. I used that in our place and loveloveloved it. I will never buy cheap paint again.

Some of my colors were Aura colors - Eco-spec can be mixed with all the tints. I think the Aura paint tends to be a bit thicker, so maybe it's better for more dramatic colors or for covering darker colors? That's kind of the impression I have after discussing it with the painter and paint place. We considered Aura but it was double the cost plus only low-VOC vs zero, and with a three year old plus another on the way we wanted the lowest VOC's as possible.

I guess we'll see - it's possible the Eco-spec doesn't last as long as Aura. These green paints are new enough that it's hard to know how well they hold up long term (although Aura's been around long enough to have a good rep for at least medium long term).

Ah, the store I bought paint from swore up and down that the Aura colors could only be done with the Aura paint. Oh well, I still figure it was money well spent. One coat coverage, hardly any smell, fabulous finish and a gallon went a long, long way. I wish I had the money to do the rest of my house because I hate the difference between the cheapass paint and the Aura rooms in adjoining rooms.

Luckily, we don't have any furniture other than a bed. /o\ (I'm trying to look on the bright side) -

But ooooh on the green paint. Ooooooh. I'm very stoked about being able to go pretty heavily green with everything, right down to cleaning supplies. I'm ridiculously happy about having something that's *mine*.

I'm hoping very very hard for this to go through. There are some complications with the sale that make it iffy.

Fingers crossed!

:D It really came down to the idea that the mortgage/HOA/taxes/interest/insurance was *maybe* $100-200 more than renting.

And at that point, there's really no reason not to buy if you're in the position to. Or at least that was my thinking.

But yay! I am excited!
