Oh that's a hard one. I'm leaning towards her side since, like she said, it doesnt' sound like this guy realizes what he did was wrong and that he sounds like he'd do it again. But the human rights issue too. Ick. Dunno.

There is a very large part of me that thinks she should be able to get that punishment because it would be an amazing deterrent.

Also because that guy sounds dangerous.

no it wouldn't. if it was, no-one in very strict, eye for an eye, societies would do anything wrong and yet they do all the time. also, this kind of person won't learn anything but bitterness and the person who was originally harmed won't feel any better in the end. nothing will have changed.

eye for eye is never the answer.
