-I haven't been reading much that's new recently, especially since I packed up my bookcase and all the books that were in the garage. Now I just have the few that are living in my car, closet, at work, and uh. Other places. Somewhere. I did, however, pick up the new Mary Balogh book because it had 1) Good People Doing Their Duty, 2) regency stuff yay!, 3) Good People Sacrificing Themselves For Their Families And Managing To Be Happy Anyway, and 4) Not A Beautiful Heroine. So, all in all, a fairly standard Mary Balogh novel, with the bonus of Not A Beautiful Heroine. I liked it, but it wasn't anything new or groundbreaking and I'm pretty sure I recall the exact same plot, or elements thereof, in one of the Bedwyn books.

-I lost my camera somewhere at comic con :( this makes taking pictures very difficult.

-My mom is now on board with Operation: Moving Out. The circumstances of this reversal are kind of mindboggling. She has bought plates, a tea kettle, some towels with easter eggs on them, silverware, and four cups. IDEK, you guys.

-2 weeks tomorrow!

-Man, SF/F pros, you are making me hellaciously sad with the epic amounts of wtf-ery that keep springing up like rage-disease non-zombies after RaceFail '09. FAIL LESS. Not fail better, just fail LESS.

-It turns out my favorite part of RTS games is the resource collection and building of civilizations. So I tried a civilization building game on XBox arcade and really liked it. I will try 1701 after this, which is a civilization building game set during Age of Sail. Woot.

-The Star Wars pen and paper RPG I'm playing right now is awesome. I'm playing a scoundrel and shooting things while we fight slavery in the galaxy.

-I haven't logged in to WoW in a really long time; the secondary raid group for our guild sort of fizzled while we're waiting for the new raid and eh. I can level an alt (I actually like leveling!), but I'm all frazzled from all the escrow stuff and I don't want to deal with logging in and everything. I am really stoked about Blizzcon, though.

Give me something to talk about, you guys, I'm all...quiet and stuff and you know that's not like me.

Um, you could talk about music? Now that you are quiet, no one on my default filter is mentioning how awesome Travie and Pstump are all the time. (Or, possibly you are in love with new music? Have you listened to Razia's Shadow?)

You could tell us about your RPG game. Why are you a scoundrel? How scoundrel-y are you?

You could tell us how you hope to decorate your condo. You could even post pictures of things. You could show us electronic paint chips and rug samples! (Yeah, IDK.)

You could write something for The Remyth Project.

You could tell us about your imaginary new fandom.

You could tell us why [X] is awesome. Lots of stuff.

:D I have not actually been listening to a lot of the new music; I have been listening to Fort Minor a lot, because I like Mike Shinoda and I had Fall Out Boy's Folie a Deux, Butch Walker's Sycamore Meadows and Muse's Live at Wembley on repeat in my car for a really long time.

*twirls you*

lucky you going to Blizzcon! It's too pricey for me to make it. Maybe some year.

I'm stuck in that not wanting to raid mood, too. I haven't been doing any 25 mans, just our 10 mans and even that's not thrilling. Can't wait for the patch and for Ulduar to go in. I need something new instead of working Sarth +1 or +2 (+3 hahaha HELL NO).

Been leveling my DK a bit here and there, when I want to kill things. I've been playing WoW for almost 5 years now and I can tell when I'm bored with it and need a break.

Grats on the house! Now is a really good time to buy a house with the rates so low and all the foreclosures happening. Everything will go smoothly, you'll see!

It helps that I work for them and thus get to go for free :)

I was supposed to be raiding the heroics and stuff (my guild finally did Sarth +3 with the main 25 man Naxx group, and so I and the Boy are kind of :( at having missed it) right when it fizzled and so I'm kind of sad about the whole thing. But I figure I'll play other games for now and work on my Starcraft gameplay in time for SC2 and the awesome awesome awesomeness that is the Protoss vs Kerrigan.

I have high hopes for the house!

I love a hero/heroine who is Not Beautiful. Makes things more interesting. Have you read Watchmen? Are you excited/dreading the movie?

I have read Watchmen and I will honestly say that a) I am tentatively looking forward to the movie because b) I think that Zack Snyder will have heroed up some of the characters and thus made them likable. My biggest problem with the book as it stands is that while I can philosophically see both sides -- the Manhattanite and the Rorschachian sides -- and I myself lean toward Rorschach's side, I just...didn't *like* any of them. At all. Except Nite Owl, and he was shown to be the most naive/ineffectual member of that group.

But then, I have this problem a lot with Alan Moore's books (except League, and that largely because Mina Harker Owns the Universe), where I'm left going, "Yes, this is a very good story you're telling, but seriously, you're a pretentious ass and there's nothing wrong with straight up heroism." I don't know. I get the overwhelming feeling that he thinks basic decency is plebian or something.

So, yes, I am looking forward to it, but tentatively. Because I didn't much like 300, but I loved Dawn of the Dead.

I'm definitely leaning towards Rorschach. I can see the other side, but I don't agree with it. I like Rorschach a lot because he is a decent person who fights with less than decent tactics. I like the dichotomy. I kind of hated the rest of them because I thought they were hypocritical and even if Rorschach was psychotic, at least he was honest in his psychoses.

I think Mina Harker is the shit. She's amazing. I honestly liked V for Vendetta better ias the movie version. I had a lot of issues with the graphic novel because it seemed like exactly what you said, basic decency was plebian. And none of the characters other than V were fleshed out even remotely.

I think Alan Moore is a jack ass, by the way. He's so elitist and was really rude to the director of Watchmen when responding to something Snyder said that was totally misquoted.

I liked Dawn of the Dead a lot, but hated 300. I did like how he stuck so firmly to the source material in 300. I just didn't like the source material.

I've decided that Mary Balogh's stuff is pretty much my ideal airport comfort read. If I can't find anything else in the airport bookstore, I can be pretty sure that at least those will be pretty unfaily.

The SF pro thing has turned completely ridiculous with KC's redirecting and then locking down her blog. I just boggled for a while. Then I went and read all the book recs on coffeeandink's post and was much happier.

My plans for the evening involve reading [livejournal.com profile] moirarogers new one and possibly watching Reaper if I remember to turn the tv on.

Mary Balogh is very much a comfort read for me. I'm always pretty sure that what I'll get from her is decent people, some ridiculous sacrifice, and familial duty uber alles. And one dour person who is very aware of His Place In the World and the Cheerful Woman Who Likes Sex and Living And Teaches Him To Feel Again. Though sometimes it's reversed.

And yeah, the SF pro thing is just making me want to throw out all the books I have from Tor. They make me sad.

Heh. We actually do have a Horde alts guild on Area 52, but had to put that project on hold when we absorbed another large guild. Too much admin to take care of on one server as is :-P One of these days, though... I miss my cow!

You know what you need to do? Come over for dinner one of these days... I'm not getting nearly enough details from these here and there journal post :-)
