eta: I also feel like one of the few people who doesn't hate Jesse St James. He may be a dick, but at least he's not a passive aggressive dick like Finn and Shue.

I am so over Shue and Finn. Both of them see themselves as so put upon by the world and yet that's so not the case.

And Shue, as a teacher, should know better. Two of his students go off and find a way to shine because he always relegated them to the background and he's all hurt. Mercedes and Kurt rightfully read him. Although, did anyone notice how happy Quinn looked to see the two of them out there performing?

I did notice that! Quinn seemed genuinely happy for them (and that the cheerios were putting on such an awesome, awesome performance). And yeah, I can't figure out why we're supposed to like Finn and Shue -- and part of me thinks that the writers are in on that because they keep making Mercedes and Kurt (and Rachel and Sue and Artie and Emma sometimes) call Shue out on his crap and I can't think of anyone who would have heard, "Are you guys just trying to hurt my feelings?" from Finn and not mocked him openly. So I keep being torn between suspecting that the show thinks they're dicks and them not DOING anything about it.

Also, how much did I LOVE hearing Santana sing?

I hear you about your Finn/Shue assessment. On so many levels, they're both so focused on what they want that when other people poke their bubbles, you see this light go off. Like 'D'uh.' I can almost forgive Finn but then you see Puck who is seriously self aware and then I'm back to hating him.

When faced with Jesse (from VA), Artie, Mercedes and Kurt rightfully identified exactly what was wrong with the picture. And the bottom line is, it all still serves to give Rachel what she wants: ambitious boyfriend and now the perfect male lead for her. Problem is, everyone else gets it that they're a choir and not a Broadway show.

I think (or hope, truly) that Ryan Murphy et. al. are really sticking it to both of them. Everyone talks about how Kurt, Mercedes and the others are stereotypes but Finn and Shue are moreso: the dumb but caring jock and the caring teacher.

And yes, Santana needs to sing like WHOA. I read an interview the actress who plays her and she talks about who she is and what she wants. I need to find that again.

It really baffles me that the writers think Finn and Shue are heroes. They have to be pulling one over.

And, yeah, not hating Jesse. He's in the Puck place: at least he realizes that he's an asshole.

Yeah, I kind of...I have to attribute the writing of Finn and Shue to the writers trying to pull a fast one on the audience. There's too much direct contradiction and the minute Finn was all, "It's like everyone is trying to hurt my feelings!" I just sort of go, there's no way that wasn't deliberately put in to make Finn look like a jerk.

And...I have somehow made myself a Jesse/Rachel tinhat. I KNOW HE'S EVIL AND YET. I love him and his stupid floppy hair and his being a better singer than Finn and I love that he knows himself as surely as Rachel knows herself and that he's totally okay with who he is. I cross my fingers that he doesn't prove to be a giant asshole and just a minor league one.
