Have you read Arsenal 1-4 by Devin Grayson? It does pretty much exactly what you're looking for-- tells Roy's journey, lots of flashbacks, pulls it all together into one thing.
Alternately, you could try Devin Grayson's novel "Inheritance." (Which depends on a sort of novelization of the flashback bits in Arsenal 1-4, plus some more Cheshire bits.) And yes, everything you've heard about it is true-- it's just *not* very good at all, plus the kind of "Honey, your id vortex is showing" mentor/student eepiness, but she does give good Roy.
I've read Inheritance which, er, I took with a bit of salt because novelizations != canon. And I did not know that there was an Arsenal mini, so, er, no. Haven't read that one!
