if we could avoid writing fic in which basically nice, decent people are suddenly ABUSIVE ASSHOLES*, I would really appreciate it.

*please feel free to replace "ABUSIVE ASSHOLE" with any of the following: Randomly Evil, ZOMG DARK AND TORTURED, "Morally Ambiguous" (when morally ambiguous just means self-centered dick. i.e., 90% of the time), Self-Hating Queer/Woman/Person of Color, Child Molester, etc.

Something like that scrolled by on my flist recently and I was about to click the link out of some sort of Pavlovian reflex. Then higher brain function kicked in and I was like, 'self, you do not really want to read that.' *borrows brain bleach for all the times I didn't manage to save myself*

Man, I don't even understand how these characterizations start. Like, fandom, seriously. What?
